ABSTRACT Megalocytivirus, a large double‐stranded DNA virus belonging to the Iridoviridae family, has infected over 100 species of fish, leading significant economic losses in aquaculture, food, and ornamental fish industries. These viruses exhibit icosahedral symmetry have diameters ranging from 120 200 nm. Two distinct viral genus Megalocytivirus been identified: pagrus 1 lates . encompasses three genotypes: infectious spleen kidney necrosis virus, red seabream iridovirus, turbot reddish body whereas comprises single genotype, known as scale drop disease virus. Infection with is notifiable World Organisation for Animal Health. Over past two decades, progress made various aspects megalocytivirus biology, including understanding its molecular genetics, transmission modes, host ranges, pathogenic mechanisms, diagnostic methodologies, vaccines. This review provides comprehensive overview current megalocytiviruses, focusing on epidemiology, pathogenicity, immune evasion, prevention strategies megalocytiviruses. We hope that these findings will provide new insights development effective control megalocytiviral diseases.
