Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a serious pregnancy complication, in which women without previously diagnosed develop chronic hyperglycemia during gestation. In most cases, this the result of impaired glucose tolerance due to pancreatic β-cell dysfunction on background insulin resistance. Risk factors for GDM include overweight and obesity, advanced maternal age, family history or any form diabetes. Consequences increased risk cardiovascular disease type 2 macrosomia birth complications infant. There also longer-term diabetes, child. affects approximately 16.5% pregnancies worldwide, number set increase with escalating obesity epidemic. While several management strategies exist—including lifestyle interventions—there not yet cure an efficacious prevention strategy. One reason that molecular mechanisms underlying are poorly defined. This review discusses what known about pathophysiology GDM, where there gaps literature warrant further exploration.

Thus, harnessing rich findings from preclinical translational research biology enhance via circadian-based approaches represents unique opportunity personalized/precision medicine overall societal well-being. In this Review, we discuss implications human using bench-to-bedside approach. science applied clinical population-based Given broad regulation health, Review focuses its discussion on selected examples metabolic, cardiovascular, allergic, immunologic disorders highlight interrelatedness between potential interventions, such as bright light therapy exogenous melatonin, well chronotherapy improve and/or modify outcomes.

Healthy sleep is essential for physical and mental health, social wellbeing; however, across the globe, particularly in developing countries, national public health agendas rarely consider health. Sleep should be promoted as an pillar of equivalent to nutrition activity. To improve a focus on education awareness, research, targeted policies are needed. We recommend educational programmes awareness campaigns; increasing, standardising, centralising data quantity quality every country globe; implementing sectors society. Efforts needed ensure equity inclusivity all people, those who most socially economically vulnerable, historically excluded.
