The excessive use of antibiotics has resulted in the contamination environment with antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), posing a significant threat to public health. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are known be reservoirs ARGs and considered hotspots for horizontal gene transfer (HGT) between bacterial communities. However, most studies focused on distribution dissemination hospital urban WWTPs, little is about their fate industrial WWTPs. In this study, collected 15 wastewater samples containing N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) from five stages anaerobic anoxic aerobic (AAO) process an findings revealed stepwise decrease DMF chemical oxygen demand (COD) content progression treatment. number abundances increase effluents biological treatments. Furthermore, residues altered structure community. correlation analysis indicated that shift community structures might main driver dynamics change ARGs. Interestingly, observed AAO may acted as microbial source increased total abundance instead attenuating it. Additionally, found non-pathogenic bacteria had higher than pathogenic effluents. study provides insights into mechanisms drive variation
