To switch the over-reliance on fossil-based resources, curb environmental quality deterioration, and promote use of renewable fuels, much attention has recently been directed toward implementation sustainable environmentally benign 'waste-to-energy' technology exploiting a clean, inexhaustible, carbon-neutral, energy source, namely agricultural biomass. From this perspective, anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) emerges as potent plausible approach to attain development, foster sustainability, and, most importantly, circumvent key challenges associated with mono-digestion. This review article provides comprehensive overview AcoD biochemical valorization pathway crop residues livestock manure for biogas production. Furthermore, manuscript aims assess different biotic abiotic parameters affecting efficiency present recent advancements in pretreatment technologies designed enhance feedstock biodegradability conversion rate. It can be concluded that substantial quantities animal waste generated annually from practices represent valuable bioenergy resources contribute meeting global targets affordable energy. Nevertheless, extensive multidisciplinary research is needed evolve industrial-scale residues, particularly when phase included, bridge gap between small-scale studies real-world applications.
