In this study, a novel adsorbent called Ca@SP was developed by immobilizing microalgae protein (Spirulina platensis, SP) in an alginate matrix for enhanced Pb²⁺ removal from aqueous solutions. Synthesized via situ crosslinking, leverages the synergistic effects of alginate's gel-forming ability and SP's N-rich biomass. Characterization revealed green spherical hydrogel with BET specific surface area 159.5 m²/g. The composite exhibited pH-dependent highly selective adsorption over other divalent metal ions, which can be explained relatively lower hydrated Gibbs free energy Pb²⁺. main mechanisms were identified as physical adsorption, electrostatic interaction, complexation, ion exchange. Column experiments demonstrated Ca@SP's effectiveness under various operational conditions, including flow rate, influent concentration, column heights. RSM employed to optimize process, initial pH emerging critical parameter influencing efficiency. Desorption showed that acidic solvents had higher desorption efficiency than alkaline solvents, potential reusability confirmed. These results suggest has effective sustainable environments.

Arthrospira platensis is a filamentous cyanobacterium produced commercially for human consumption, and it source of phycocyanin (PC), which recently stirred up great interest due to its anti-inflammatory, radical scavenging, antioxidant hepato-protective properties. This work has studied the encapsulation A. extract in starch sodium octenyl succinate by employing freeze-drying two spray-drying techniques, conventional nanospray-drying. The main characteristics properties, including PC efficiency, size, colour, thermal stability capsules, were evaluated. Moreover, capacity encapsulated release PCs into saliva simulant, compared. Similar efficiency was achieved using nanospray-drying techniques with values 67–71% 70–78%, respectively. Meanwhile, method significantly lower (38–42%). improved as demonstrated higher decomposition temperature, increased 8–11 °C, 11–15 22–23 °C spray-dried, nanospray-dried freeze-dried samples, technique allowed production smallest particles an average diameter 2–14 µm, good colour stability, capacity. Overall, results potential modified several application bioactive ingredients nutraceutical or pharmaceutical products.

Microalgae are rich sources of astaxanthin well recognized for their potent bioactivities such as antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities. Recent interests focused on the microalgae-derived treating or preventing cancers mediated by antioxidant properties. This is due to special structural configuration in terms unsaturation (conjugated double bonds), stereochemical isomerism (3S,3'S optical isomer) esterification (monoester), which display more bioactivities, compared with those from other natural yeasts higher plants, synthetic astaxanthin. review focuses recent advances association immune diseases, emphasis potential applications antioxidants. Micro- and nanoplastics, particularly those derived from food-contact materials like polyethylene terephthalate (PET), can damage gut barriers, making the gastrointestinal system more vulnerable to inflammation infections. Here, a probiotic-based drug delivery (EcNT@L) is devised mitigate nanoplastics-induced barrier dysfunction by modulating immunity microbiota. Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) genetically engineered produce transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) then modified with an Eudragit L100-55 coating. This probiotic acts as in vivo "drug factory", exerting anti-inflammatory immune-regulatory effects, improved retention bioavailability tract. EcNT@L effectively protects Caco-2 cells infections induced nano PET, primarily activating NF-κB signaling pathway. Besides, demonstrates superior therapeutic efficacy treating infection caused combined presence of PET Salmonella, outperforming commercial antibiotics due its ability modulate immune responses study highlights potential systems addressing dysfunctions, offering promising strategy for mitigating environmental impact micro- nanoplastics.
