The terminal tributaries of karst rivers are often under-researched, with low investigation coverage and incomplete surveys. These areas face significant human activity disturbances, fragile soil water environments, insufficient research on quality conditions. Residents in their basins confronted urgent issues scarcity deteriorating quality. This study focused the Zhongdu River Basin, a tributary Pearl system Southwest China. By measuring conventional hydrochemical parameters stable isotope ratios (e.g., δ18O δ2H), this employed methods such as hydrological geochemical approaches, well classical statistical analyses, to reveal characteristics, regulatory mechanisms, health status basin. Data show that Basin is generally weakly alkaline, pH range between 6.46 8.28. highest values for electrical conductivity (EC) total dissolved solids (TDSs) found upstream, reaching 497 μS/cm 324.5 mg/L, respectively. average oxygen (DO) value 71.3 mg/L. type primarily HCO3−-Ca2⁺, Ca2⁺ HCO3⁻ dominant ions. surface middle lower reaches basin strongly influenced by evaporation, atmospheric precipitation main recharge source. Rock weathering primary influencing factor basin, most minerals state. Agricultural activities pollution source domestic having minimal effect Water was assessed using entropy-weighted index (EWQI) based 11 parameters, indicating overall good quality, classified Grade I. findings indicate have impact region, expected maintain its healthy condition an extended period.

Explicit identification of hydrochemical processes and their controlling factors within groundwater systems is critical for the sustainable utilization water resources in coastal urban areas. This study was undertaken North Coastal Region Jiaozhou Bay (NCRJB), located eastern part Shandong Province, China, an area grappling with significant issues quality degradation scarcity. A total 105 samples 34 surface samples, collected from 2020 to 2024, were analyzed studied using various hydrogeological tools, multivariate statistical analyses, assessment methods. These include Piper diagram, facies evolution diagram (HFE-D), Principal Components Analysis (PCA), correlation analysis, stable isotope Water Quality Index (WQI), USSL diagrams. The results indicated that all pore categorized as Na-Cl type, exhibiting high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Electrical Conductivity (EC) values, characteristics render them poor unsuitable drinking irrigation purposes. fracture predominantly Ca-Na-Cl mixed average suitability a limited proportion (22.5%) deemed suitable drinking. Seawater intrusion, primarily through system, impact human activities identified predominant con-tributing local environment. Field empirical investigations further validated derived assessments, isotopic approaches. long-term shifts properties, along latent threat seawater exhibit upward trend during dry season show certain degree mitigation wet season. highlights field investigations, conjunction can successfully furnish reliable insights into mechanisms governing regional context intricate envi-ronmental settings.

The soil moisture (SM) balance was affected by afforestation. In this study, the CiteSpace software used to review literatures on impact of afforestation SM, and we further present research findings Loess Plateau (LP) as follows: 1) spatio-temporal heterogeneity SM varies depending scale; 2) presence a dried layer significantly hinders deep recharge; 3) accumulation net primary productivity (NPP) may be occurring at expense SM. following topics are discussed: recharge consumption in LP; green water footprint its shortage degree non-crop greenery for evaluating allocation use; development inclusive models encompassing different spatial scales assess limits Soil Water Carrying Capacity Vegetation (SWCCV).
