While entrepreneurial disruption has proven a source of abundance by way reforming markets and legacy institutions, it is also frequently characterized the displacement existing professions, industries, livelihoods among other societal ecological externalities. Prior research often assumed that such reform externalities are inevitable inseparable aspects disruption. In this paper, however, we theorize institutional foundations have led to current configuration field startup activity global emphasis on "unicorn startups."
