The rapid increase in construction and demolition waste (C&DW) has emerged as a significant environmental challenge, particularly due to the hazardous substances embodied within fine residues destined into landfills. disposal of C&DW landfills been widely recognized source leachate, containing toxic contaminants, which pose risks. A controlled column leaching experiment was conducted using samples with varying proportions C&DW, gypsum, organic content assess their impact on leachate chemistry. results indicate that higher leads increased concentrations heavy metals, such Pb, Hg, As, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Co, well other metals like Al Fe, peak contamination occurring first 13–15 weeks. Gypsum presence exacerbates metal solubility by reducing pH, increasing sulfate levels, promoting metal-sulfate complex formation. Despite remaining regulatory thresholds, cumulative concentration over time highlights potential risks, landfill settings. This study underscores need for improved management practices, enhanced segregation, sustainable alternatives gypsum mitigate long-term ecological impacts. These findings contribute deeper understanding dynamics inform policy recommendations sector.
