Overuse of antibiotics is accelerating the antimicrobial resistance among pathogenic microbes which a growing public health challenge at global level. Higher causes severe infections, high complications, longer stays hospitals and even increased mortality rates. Antimicrobial (AMR) has significant impact on national economies their systems, as it affects productivity patients or caregivers due to prolonged hospital with economic costs. The main factor AMR includes improper excessive use antimicrobials; lack access clean water, sanitation, hygiene for humans animals; poor infection prevention control measures in hospitals; medicines vaccines; awareness knowledge; irregularities legislation. represents problem, epidemiological surveillance systems have been established, aiming promote collaborations directed well-being human animal balance ecosystem. MDR bacteria such E. coli , Staphylococcus aureus Pseudomonas aeruginosa Enterococcus spp., Acinetobacter Klebsiella pneumonia can cause death. These microorganisms variety antibiotic mechanisms, development drug-deactivating targets, alterations decrease intracellular concentration, render themselves resistant numerous antibiotics. In context, United Nations issued Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2015 serve worldwide blueprint better, more equal, sustainable existence our planet. SDGs place context socioeconomic issues; also, continued growth may hinder achievement SDGs. this review, we discuss role environmental pollution rise AMR, different mechanisms underlying resistance, threats posed by microbes, novel antibiotics, strategies One Health combat sustainability goals.

Abstract Water quality testing does not recognise antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and is often limited to indicators of faecal contamination Escherichia coli Enterococcus species. In Europe, data on AMR in drinking water scarce. Ireland, as many countries, household supplied via mains or private wells schemes. Using citizen science, we identified Irish supplies reservoirs resistant bacteria (ARB). Gram-negative ( n = 464) Gram-positive 72) were isolated. We instances potentially opportunistic ARB such Enterobacter cloacae, Acinetobacter baumannii report multidrug casseliflavus, E. coli, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia , Serratia rubidaea . also linezolid-resistant water. Linezolid a last-resort antibiotic used treat vancomycin-resistant sp. Additionally, mobile three samples, two which carried IncF group, one IncQ five Col-like plasmids. Our work suggests that potential sink source pathogens. This highlights value surveillance One Health framework the would provide information regarding movement persistence ARGs are able survive subsequently have opportunity be mobilised through humans; linking environment human threatening health.

The convergence of antibiotic contamination, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and climate dynamics poses a critical environmental public health challenge. Freshwater ecosystems are increasingly threatened by the persistent presence antibiotics, which, coupled with rising global temperatures, accelerate development spread AMR. This review examines sources, pathways, mechanisms through which antibiotics enter freshwater systems how change exacerbates these processes. discusses this convergence’s ecological human impacts, highlighting implications for biodiversity health. It also explored current monitoring mitigation strategies, including advanced oxidation processes, natural-based solutions, policy interventions. Finally, identifies research gaps proposes future directions managing intertwined threats resistance, change. emphasizes need integrated, multidisciplinary approaches to protect resources in an volatile environment.
