2-Hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone (UV-531) is a UV absorber widely used in infrastructure, cosmetics, and rubber products. Sunscreen agents are chemical compounds widely used nowadays for skin protection from UV sunlight. Recently, their ubiquitous occurrence in aquatic systems has been evidenced, which poses a high risk the environment and human health as they associated with endocrine disrupting activity, reproductive toxicity, genotoxicity. In this work, feasibility of an economically environmentally friendly catalytic system based on thermally modified natural magnetite hydrogen peroxide (Fe3O4-R400/H2O2), evaluated degradation two representative sunscreen agents: benzophenone-3 (BP-3) 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) wastewater. The experiments were conducted under circumneutral pH (pH0 = 5), temperature control (25 ºC). Solute descriptors derived from experimental solubility data for oxybenzone dissolved in 21 different organic solvents indicate that the hydrogen atom on hydroxyl functional group forms an intramolecular bond with lone electron pair oxygen of neighboring >C=O group. AbstractAbstractPersonal care products, such as UV filters, are frequently present in aquatic ecosystems, but studies on their impact marine organisms still scarce. Here we addressed the effects of benzophenone-3 (BP-3) antioxidant status Perna perna mussels exposed to concentrations 0.1 and 3 μg.L−1 for 72 h 7 days. Glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), S-transferase (GST), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity lipoperoxidation (MDA) were evaluated gills. A significant reduction (p < 0.05) G6PDH GPx was observed after exposure days µg.L−1. However, no differences GST MDA levels, independently time. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed an association BP-3 highest concentration with GR at only exposure. Similarly, integrated biomarker response (IBR) demonstrated alterations. Global attention has been focused on organic UV filters due to their ubiquity and potential damage aquatic environment, yet the effects of life cycle exposure fish reproduction remain unknown. In present study, influence 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid (PBSA) reproductive endocrine system zebrafish was examined, from 6 hours post fertilization (hpf) until 150 days, at levels that near-environmentally relevant (0 20 μg/L). Our results showed PBSA μg/L caused a slight decrease in Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) female F0 generation. Furthermore, this had negatively effect reproduction, accompanied by delayed oocyte maturation, reduced cumulative egg production decreased rate. Additionally, offspring embryos displayed diameter 0.75 hpf, hatching rate 60 increased deformities 72 indicating an adverse transgenerational effect. Moreover, associated with plasma sex hormones 17β-estradiol (E2) 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT), as well altered transcriptional profiles certain genes HPG (hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal) liver axis. Molecular docking (MD) simulations revealed specific amino residues interact estrogen receptors, confirming its xenoestrogenic properties.
