Water quality modeling is a key element for the support of environmental protection and policymaking. The aim this work to describe application far-field water model simulation marine pollution occurring from heavy metals (cadmium, lead, nickel, copper, zinc). highly stressed area Saronikos Gulf (Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean) was chosen investigation. Major sources were identified, loads estimated, parameterized reproduce local seawater conditions. distribution pollutants between dissolved particulate phases examined. performance set-up evaluated using field concentration measurements. described implementation succeeded in reproducing observed levels therefore can be used as baseline configuration examine cumulative impact future sources; example, accidental events.

Abstract Plankton are key ecological indicators for assessing the impacts of human-induced pressures like climate change and waste-water discharge. Here, 26 years (1988–2015) biweekly in-situ chlorophyll-a concentration, mesozooplankton biomass remotely-sensed sea surface temperature (SST) data utilized to investigate long-term changes plankton timing growth (phenology) in relation warming, a coastal region Saronikos Gulf (Aegean Sea). A Waste-Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) was established 1995, leading decreased nutrient concentrations circa 2004. Overall, results indicate an interplay between warming status. During higher input (1989–2004), temporal mismatch zooplankton phytoplankton, positive growth—SST association, evident. Conversely, warmer, less mesotrophic period 2005–2015, earlier (related copepod abundance) synchronizes with phytoplankton growth, including secondary autumn period. Concurrently, abrupt negative interannual relationship SST mesozooplankton, summer decrease (linked cladoceran observed. This work provides evidence that current could alter abundance phenology nearshore Eastern Mediterranean ecosystems, suggesting shifts community composition trigger potential cascading effects on trophic levels.

To achieve its energy transition, the French government is planning to install floating wind farms in Mediterranean Sea Gulf of Lion. In order study effects such installations on ecosystem, A trophic model was developed evolution biomass and ecological network indicators (ENA). Four scenarios were designed simulate 1/the “reef effect” caused by new hard substrate created farm structure, 2/the association reef effect with reserve closure fishing, 3/the impact regular harvesting sessile organisms from fishermen and, 4/the transfer these seafloor. Our suggests changes ecosystem structure functioning after introduction a farm, where low level groups became more important web, maturity decreased, overall activity diversity increased. The some pelagic demersal Overall, large platforms will transform local enhancing production which likely provide benefits fisheries focused higher groups.

Salt marshes are one of the three blue carbon ecosystems recognized by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). However, coastal salt in China facing risk degradation. To reveal status marsh wetland ecosystem Liaohe Estuary, an Ecopath model composed 14 functional groups was constructed based 2019 ecological survey data. A comprehensive analysis system’s food web structure, energy flow processes, and overall characteristics conducted. The results show that Estuary is mainly distributed integrated trophic levels. utilization rates levels II III low, easily causing blockages lower ecosystem’s flow. total system throughput 49,099.039 t·km²·a −1 ;. connectivity index omnivory 0.207 0.109, respectively. Compared with other systems, has a larger scale, but characteristic reveals stability complexity system.
