Abstract Increasingly serious environmental problems, including air pollution and water contamination, have led to an increasing demand for filter materials (FMs). Biopolymer nanofibrils assembled by natural macromolecules such as polysaccharides or proteins exist widely nanobuilding blocks in materials. Owing the advantages of abundant source, biodegradability, biocompatibility, high specific surface area excellent mechanical properties, biopolymer show bright prospects sustainable functional filters. This review summarizes structure preparation methods representative (cellulose nanofibrils, chitin silk nanofibrils), then outlines their emerging applications field FMs. Finally, existing challenges future opportunities this are summarized.
