Educational digitization has made integrating digital technology into physical education a pivotal strategy for transforming pedagogy. Guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, this study addresses two challenges in Chinese university education: lack of evidence-based research on integration, and decline student fitness alongside waning effectiveness traditional table tennis instruction. We propose “3 + 1” teaching model multimedia, virtual reality (VR), augmented (AR), artificial intelligence (AI) cohesive curriculum, aiming to enhance students' proficiency. employed sequential explanatory mixed-methods design. Initially, survey 1,200 undergraduates enrolled elective courses across 10 universities Guangxi, China, assessed instructional needs. Subsequently, 16-week quasi-experimental involving 270 students from Guangxi University (experimental group, n = 135; control 135) was conducted. While group maintained instruction, experimental utilized curriculum. Pre- post-intervention evaluations included quantitative assessments skills cardiovascular endurance, complemented qualitative data observations interviews. Quantitative results demonstrated significant improvements with 15% greater improvement ( p < 0.01) 10% higher increase endurance 0.05) compared group. Qualitative analysis highlighted group's increased acceptance technology, heightened engagement, deeper immersion, enhanced motivation interest practice.
