Abstract The physical appearance of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) fruit (dates) is important for its market value. Many date-producing countries experience significant financial losses due to the poor fruit, skin separation or puffiness being a major reason. Previous research showed evidence linking phenotype environmental conditions. In this study, we show that there both an and genetic contribution phenotype. We beyond factors, genetics strong contributor most extreme in some cultivars. To investigate further, genome-wide association study was conducted using genome data from 199 samples collected 14 identified nine loci associated with investigated genes these regions may contribute overall. Identifying factors help better understand biology pathways lead effects on improve commercial production. conclusion, our key finding variation, improvements alone cannot overcome level variation observed

Sustainability in bio-based edible films, coatings, and packaging integrates environmental, economic, social sustainability using renewable resources. These materials offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics can extend the shelf life of fruits. The wine industry’s by-products, rich bioactive compounds, create films coatings. However, some challenges limitations may occur. Producing coatings on a commercial scale be challenging, requiring significant investment research development. While many benefits, they not always match synthetic plastics’ mechanical strength barrier properties. ongoing is actively working improve functionality durability these materials, offering hope for future. Bio-based more expensive produce than conventional plastics, which limit their widespread adoption without economic incentives or subsidies. Therefore, this review, aims provide literature review about challenges, prospects offered packaging, particularly small fruits grapevine important field.

Fruit cracking, a widespread physiological disorder affecting various fruit crops and vegetables, has profound implications for quality marketability. This mini review delves into the multifaceted factors contributing to cracking emphasizes pivotal roles of environmental agronomic in its occurrence. Environmental variables such as temperature, relative humidity, light exposure are explored determinants influencing susceptibility. Furthermore, significance mineral nutrition plant growth regulators mitigating risk is elucidated, being calcium deficiency identified prominent variable species. In recent years, precision farming monitoring systems have emerged valuable tools managing optimizing production. By meticulously tracking parameters soil moisture, skin growers can make informed decisions prevent or alleviate cracking. conclusion, effective prevention necessitates comprehensive approach that encompasses both factors.

Calcium (Ca) plays a crucial role as nutrient influencing the ripening, post-harvest duration, and quality of fruits. Its impact on cell wall its function secondary messenger at cellular level underscore significance. While recently there has been an increase in studies examining effects Ca fruit quality, remains need to consolidate expand literature pre-harvest applications concerning physical-chemical properties This review aims compile information mechanisms absorption by plants, well interaction with development growth; also synthesize calcium physical chemical fruits that ultimately influences their quality. The considers comprehensive analysis published reputable scientific publishers (Elsevier, Springer, Frontiers, Wiley, MDPI, Hindawi, SciELO) over last ten years, encompassing various relevant topics. proves effective retarding loss firmness fruits, increasing mass, mitigating mass during storage, extending postharvest life, thereby enhancing marketability. Furthermore, demonstrates decreasing activity enzymes responsible for degradation. Additionally, it reduces ethylene production delaying climacteric peak reducing intensity. application results delayed color changes For soluble solids, diminishes sugar values postpones period while maintaining high total acidity values. Fruit cracking or splitting, a severe physiological disease that highly affects appearance and quality, compromise the commodity value of fruit also causes huge economical losses to producers several fleshy crops. The growth-promoting phytohormone gibberellic acid (GA) growth-inhibiting abscisic (ABA) antagonistically regulate numerous developmental processes throughout plant life cycle. Homeostasis endogenous GA ABA play significant role in normal growth fruits, its imbalance may lead occurrence splitting during process growth, development, ripening postharvest storage. pathways metabolism signaling have been studied widely, major components were well characterized, which including genes encoding biosynthesis catabolism enzymes key components. Nevertheless, our knowledge mechanisms governing is not comprehensive enough. In this review, we only focus on scenarios effects contents exogenous regulators treatments, but endeavor provide some genetic cues function responsible for modulation. Information from review aims strengthen understanding potential molecular bases underlying control guidance breeding cultivars with cracking-resistant ideotypes, make great theoretical significance guiding establishment integrated prevention measures splitting.

There is a need discover the genetic architecture of these in order enhance efficiency breeding strategies consumer and producer demands. With this objective, germplasm collection consisting 116 accessions was evaluated 23 agronomic quality over 2-6 years, characterized using genotyping-by-sequencing approach. The SNP coverage collected used conduct genome-wide association study two multilocus models three reference genomes. We identified numerous SNP-trait associations global size (weight, width, thickness), cracking, firmness, stone size, we pinpointed several candidate genes involved phytohormone, calcium, cell wall metabolisms. Finally, conducted precise literature review focusing on compare our results with potential colocalizations marker-trait associations. This brings new knowledge control important quality, development marker-assisted selection targeted towards facilitation efforts.

Rain cracking compromises quality and quantity of sweet cherries worldwide. Cracking susceptibility differs among genotypes. The objective was to (1) phenotype the progeny a cross between tolerant susceptible cherry cultivar for cuticle mass per unit area, strain release on isolation, cuticular microcracking calcium/dry ratio (2) relate these characteristics susceptibilities evaluated in laboratory immersion assays published multiyear field observations. Mass dewaxed area upon isolation were significantly related lab or field. Cuticular stylar end region as indexed by infiltration with acridine orange more severe than genotypes correlated Ca/dry lower (-8%) Fruit that cracked early had less Ca those later. Only Based stepwise regression analyses accounted most (partial r 2 = 0.331 0.338 vs. 0.326 0.453 lab). variability increased 0.571 (lab) when adding cuticle, up 0.421 (field) 0.478 entering into model. A protocol phenotyping is suggested allows larger progenies be phenotyped microcracking, DCM release.
