The stability and mechanical properties of municipal solid waste (MSW) deposits in closed landfills are critical for safe land reclamation infrastructure development. This study employs Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) to evaluate the geotechnical parameters aged at three landfill sites central Poland. Key parameters, including shear strength, internal friction angle, density, liquidity index, were assessed determine slope bearing capacity future redevelopment. Due heterogeneous nature MSW, CPT results analyzed conjunction with empirical correlations nomograms improve accuracy, so can be used numerical modeling proposing new computational approaches body elastic behavior predictions. findings indicate significant variability properties, influenced by composition, decomposition stage, compaction history. highlights CPT’s reliable detremination restoration projects, particularly infrastructure, creating potential green energy sustainable contribute improving engineering practices ensuring long-term post-closure use. also contributes obtaining on anthropogenic material both point overall structural scale, benefiting methods analyzing safety such complex demanding structures as landfills.

Using a science mapping approach, we analyzed the exponential increase in number of scientific documents about negative environmental impacts produced by waste from personal protective equipment (PPE), especially face masks, used to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission worldwide. Our results revealed that India, China, and Canada are leaders this research field, which is clearly related issues, but also solutions developed an engineering point view. analysis most-relevant field uncovered considerable effects PPE aquatic media, its contribution greenhouse gas emissions, on wildlife, etc. To waste, need implement innovative ecodesign strategies for their green production, including re-use as use recycling materials, collaboration with population at source. Both action lines could be materialized establishing collective, extended producer responsibility system ensure sustainable production consumption. These well-implemented will contribute maintaining progress towards achieving development goals.

The use of urban sewage sludge as the feedstock lipids to produce biodiesel is a topic great interest and potential. However, extractive step, conventionally operated with organic solvents, makes this unfeasible high environmental impact. In work, for first time, solvent-free recovery from was studied through adsorption onto non-polar polymeric materials (Spunbonded nonwoven Polypropylene (s-nwPP)). After being immersed in sedimented (TS: 6.9 wt%), s-nwPP sheets were easily separated, dried analyzed: sludge's preferentially adsorbed surface. Free fatty acids (FFAs) dominant species recovered acidic methanol separated reactive washing step acid methyl esters (FAMEs) A crude product obtained sequence desorption operations, FAMEs content over 55 wt%. preliminary investigations on commercial sheets, 3 Ply Safety Face Masks also positively tested. pH, weight ratio polymer/wet (R) temperature parameters optimized: operating at 343 K under conditions (pH sludge<2), an R equal 6%, total FFAs yield 70% already achieved after two cycles. evaluation economic feasibility demonstrated that used PP surgical facial masks allow generation very reasonable price minimal impacts.

Abstract This paper presents a new method for determining the effect of healthy personal protective material (HPPM) stripes, such as surgical masks, suits, and overhead foot covers, on durability physicomechanical characteristics concrete use in architectural forms. Because current global epidemic caused by coronavirus (COVID-19), HPPM, has increased considerably. COVID-19’s second third waves are currently affecting various countries, necessitating facemasks (FM). Consequently, millions single FM have been discharged into wild, washing up beaches, floating beneath seas, ending hazardous locations. The stripe fibers concrete, workability, Uniaxial Compressive Strength UCS, flexural strength, impact spalling resistance, abrasion sorptivity, Water absorption Sw, porosity (ηe), water penetration, permeability, economic eco-friendly aspects, need to be determined. With focus especially single-use facemasks, this study investigated an innovative way incorporate pandemic waste structures. Scanning electron microscope X-ray diffraction patterns were employed analyze microstructures interfacial transition zones identify elemental composition. HPPM had pore-blocking effect, which reduced permeability capillary porosity. Additionally, best concentrations particularly applied volume at 0, 1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5%. mixed from different HPPMs strength overall performance samples. tendency growing began disappear approximately 2%. results investigation showed that content no compressive strength. However, is critical concrete. UCS steadily between 1 1.5% before falling marginally 2.5%, indicates incorporating significant mixture. addition mixtures considerably modified failure mode brittle ductile. hardened when stripes added separately low-volume fractions containing 2% lowest percentage. found act bridges across cracks, enhancing transfer capability matrices. From technological environmental standpoint, using production viable.
