Background With the increased availability of data, a growing number studies have been conducted to address impact social determinants health (SDOH) factors on population outcomes. However, such an is either examined at county level or state in United States. The results analysis lower administrative levels would be useful for local policy makers make informed decisions. Objective This study aimed investigate ecological association between SDOH and outcomes census tract city level. findings this can applied support efforts improve health, enhance quality care, reduce inequity. Cultivating seafood in water environments, global aquaculture production is on the rise. As sector grows, however, so too do challenges securing necessary social license to operate (SLO): ongoing approval from various stakeholders. Previous research both risk communication and SLO suggests that perceived justice plays a foundational role establishing legitimacy subsequent public acceptance approval. Yet, gaps our understanding of – as well relationships between these concepts remain. In this study, we approach stage model, applying four-factor model (including interpersonal, procedural, distributive, informational justice) examine whether if so, how factors their associated rules may be differently salient at stages among stakeholders with siting land-based recirculating facilities three U.S. communities. Results qualitative in-depth interviews each site (n = 55) demonstrate are distinctly embedded certain stages, such function shift factors, moving communities toward granting or withholding for projects. The conversion of open space to residential development increasingly continues across the United States, impacting both humans and nature. Residential requires public input generate meaningful places understand contextually relevant priorities. Most municipal policies do not guarantee provision spaces when occurs, missing opportunities for benefits those communities reducing environmental spatial justice. This study operated a seven-state verbal questionnaire collect analyze small-sample population perceptions concerning conservation green preferences towards future Statistical analytical results indicated patterns, trends, relationships within data. Although 46% States residents living in rural, suburban, urban community types believe amount required new developments should be determined on case-by-case basis, just under half that requiring at least 50% is appropriate. More than Americans states targeted, particularly Colorado liberal-leaning respondents, lack coherent planning will prevent priority city governments. Abstract Addressing public preferences can enhance wildlife management effectiveness and reduce backlash. We conducted novel research on acceptance of by accounting for the role underexplored drivers including emotion political identity across an urban-to-rural gradient. Using data from a 2022 survey about white-tailed deer ( Odocoileus virginianus ) in Durham County, North Carolina, we analyzed three strategies: passive management, lethal hunting, professionals. Support varied gradient, as rural residents favored hunting but were less supportive compared to urban suburban residents. Emotions general attitudes toward strongest predictors acceptance. was higher among with more positive emotions deer, whereas support strategies those negative emotions. Additionally, emerged complex yet influential factor shaping management. Conservative respondents exhibited liberal professional sharpshooting. Collectively, our results demonstrate ways which emotions, politics, other socio-demographic factors interact influence urban–rural When direct experience is lacking (e.g., areas), may act heuristic guides that shape preferences. Managers aiming increase acceptability could integrate insights emotional, political, demographic communication efforts, potentially rendering effective.

Introduction As the Endangered Species Act (ESA) marks its 50th anniversary, it remains one of most influential wildlife conservation laws globally. Designed to protect endangered species and their habitats, ESA sets recovery benchmarks, with ultimate goal delisting once these criteria are met. However, has become a politically charged issue in recent decades, offering critical case study for long-term efficacy ESA. Our manuscript examines this dynamic through lens high-profile case: grizzly bear ( Ursus arctos horribilis ) Intermountain West region United States. We explore complex process delisting, research questions focusing on political actors involved perspectives process. Materials methods To address questions, we analyzed 752 policy documents, news articles, court rulings, extracting 2,832 quotes from key stakeholders. Using structural topic model inductive thematic coding. Results identified five threads discourse surrounding delisting: scientific uncertainty, role regulated hunting, human-wildlife conflict, increased state-level management, surpassing goals. analysis also highlights which commonly advance arguments how roles have shifted over time. Notably, elected legislators, legal advocates, non-governmental organizations increasingly policy, overshadowing traditional authority executive branch officials agency scientists. Conclusions recommendations These findings underscore importance understanding actor dynamics addressing disputes, insights into law may continue evolve future conflicts might be resolved.

Abstract Faced with budget cutbacks, state and local governments struggle to adequately fund public parks support land conservation. “Support nonprofits” are charitable organizations soliciting voluntary contributions of money, property, service protect natural systems (Gazley, 2015). From 2000 2015, the number nonprofits increased by 188% total nonprofit revenue 263%, outpacing growth in charities nationwide (NCCS). The rapid prompts key questions about access equity: Which communities benefit from nonprofits? Do advocate for conservation? Using a novel national dataset pairing large counties they serve, article has three findings: (1) metropolitan areas well‐educated, liberal residents more likely have fundraising land, (2) there is no correlation between funding presence. In addition philanthropy, (3) pass ballot initiatives It imperative that policy‐makers conservation advocates consider how philanthropy maps on to—and augments—existing inequality resource

Abstract Stakeholders fundamentally shape the success of wildlife management, yet little is known about how one most important stakeholder groups, agency decision makers, view emerging conservation challenges. Wildlife makers collectively unfolds in North America, but their perspectives are generally absent literature. Challenges including climate change, funding models, and disease make understanding future essential. We interviewed 48 directors supervisory board members agencies southeast United States from July 2019 to January 2020 gauge assessment challenges preferred response strategies. Declining relevancy insufficient were 2 commonly identified challenges, while change was rarely mentioned as an issue because believed it a relatively slow‐moving background condition. Decision described improving relevance through education outreach primary Our results suggest that change‐informed management may benefit 2‐pronged approach. Terrestrial and ocean ecosystems are increasingly under threat from an array of anthropogenic pressures. And while threats mount, how people view value nature is changing. In the United States (U.S.) in particular, there a shift away viewing as something to 'dominate,' evidenced decline hunting. However, it unclear if or opinions around environmental issues conservation need might differ when comparing versus terrestrial ecosystems, especially given prevalence continued importance wild capture fishing U.S. We employed two national parallel surveys, one focused on oceans, other land, receiving responses nearly every state (N = 1,973). While we found only slight, but statistically significant more concern for habitats animals over this did not translate increased willingness monetarily support actions. Using Random Forest models, also best predictor was feeling most impacted by personally (self and/or community), regardless ecosystem type. fact, land sea (survey) had lowest rank underscoring general nature-based interactions. Instead, number outdoor recreational activities highly ranked variable explaining level reported impact self/community, with who participate 2 scoring higher levels impact, average. Notably, hunt fish, do other, participated overall, providing nuanced finding regarding 'dominance hypothesis.' Voting, political affiliation, important responses, governmental mechanisms fund were favored voluntary.
