The determination of freight rates in liner shipping is influenced by the market dynamics and strategic decisions alliances. This study investigates effect non-alliance tonnage on along Asia–North America West Coast route, employing a quantile regression method. A dataset covering July 2021 to June 2023 was used, with bunker prices Dow Jones Index serving as control variables. results reveal that share has significant negative impact lower quantiles, suggesting enhanced competition reduces when are low. In contrast, this disappears at higher levels. Bunker stock index also exhibit varying effects, depending quantile, demand-side variables being more influential during low-freight conditions. These findings suggest concentration affects price-setting power, quantile-based approaches offer deeper insights into these complex relationships than linear models. contribute sustainable development maritime transport promoting fair competition, improving pricing transparency, supporting efficient policy interventions global shipping.

Marine transportation is pivotal in the rapid development of global trade, significantly enhancing international economic and trade connectivity impacting sustainable economy. In this study, we developed a novel technical framework based on Laplacian matrix to evaluate node significance edge shipping network using 2019 vessel schedule data from top 30 liner companies, as ranked by Alphaliner. Our analyses were conducted both L-space, characterizing function, P-space, transfer function. The findings indicate following. (1) There no consistent relationship between centrality for most ports. Ports with high are mainly located Asia–Pacific region, Singapore Port being port highest L-space Shanghai P-space. (2) structures significant improvements have at least one that exhibits low degree betweenness centrality; these primarily found East African routes. (3) more complex but notably linked ports Assaluyeh Bandar Abbas Iran. proposed evaluation addition strategy effectively analyze connectivity, providing decision-making support optimizing layouts, supporting container route planning, overall performance network.
