Abstract Micropeptides are commonly identified as peptides encoded by non‐coding RNAs (ncRNAs). In the short open reading frame (sORF) of ncRNAs, there is a base sequence encoding functional micropeptides, which great significance in biological field. Recently, micropeptides regulate diverse processes, including mitochondrial metabolism, calcium transport, mRNA splicing, signal transduction, myocyte fusion, and cellular senescence, regulating homeostasis internal environment cancer's incidence progression. Especially, study cancer about potential regulatory mechanism will be conducive to further understanding process initiation development. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) constitute the majority of human transcriptome and play diverse structural, catalytic, regulatory roles. The ability ncRNAs to be translated into functional peptides microproteins expands our understanding their potential beyond established non-coding functions. Our comprehensive search identified 86 translating “non-coding” RNAs. While have traditionally been categorized as “peptide-encoding”, in this study, we introduce a novel classification based on amino acid length, distinguishing products ncRNA encoded (ncRNA-PEPs), which are less than 60 acids, or (ncRNA-MPs) ranging from 61 200 acids. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) primarily results from cigarette smoke (CS)-induced chronic inflammation. Although numerous long non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) have been extensively studied for their crucial roles in COPD, the peptides encoded by these lncRNAs garnered limited attention. This study aimed to investigate role of a peptide lncRNA HOXB-AS3 extract (CSE)-induced inflammation and 16HBE cells. Open reading frames (ORF) Find software was utilized predict encoding potential HOXB-AS3. Abstract Rapid advances in high‐quality sequencing and bioinformatics have invalidated the argument that noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are junk transcripts do not encode proteins. Increasing evidence suggests small open reading frames (sORFs) ncRNAs can micropeptides polypeptides within 100 amino acids length.
