The US Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service leads the federal government in data development and research on food security households. Nutrition is an emerging concept that, although closely related, distinct from security. No standard conceptualization or measure nutrition currently exists. We review existing how it informed by more robust literature diet quality. Based this review, we propose a conceptual framework for understanding its relationship to identify two constructs (healthy diets nutritional status) multiple subconstructs that form basis proposed corresponding are intended provide (

Cancer patients face a costly trade-off between medical care and basic necessities including food. This study aims to explore whether catastrophic health expenditures lead food insecurity among older cancer survivors in the US. Longitudinal of individuals aged 50 or who were diagnosed with during 2000–2020 their follow-up measurements selected from Health Retirement Study. Data consists 2505 11,614 person-year observations for an average 4.6 per participant. Catastrophic defined as out-of-pocket costs exceeding 5%, 10%, 15% household income. Participants classified insecure if they experienced insufficient access due financial limitations. utilized fixed effects ordered logistic regression implement within-subject research design. Of survivors, 77 (3.1%) moderately 73 (2.9%) severely insecure. In regression, all three measures expenses associated higher odds insecurity. These associations more pronounced males, ethnic minorities, without college education, those fair poor health, retirees, below-median The prevalence was relatively low, 6% sample experiencing Multivariate analyses revealed that major predictor is costs. Given benefits secure access, should consult providers about capacity afford recommended treatments while maintaining healthy diets. Policymakers also consider interventions reduce burden on improved security may enhance treatment outcomes lower cancer-related mortality.

Method: This a cross-sectional study people aged 60 or over living private households municipality Northeast Brazil, registered with Family Strategy (FHS). The dependent variable was assessed using Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). evaluated Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA). Descriptive analysis, Pearson’s chi-squared test, logistic regression were used analyze data. Results: Three hundred sixteen assessed, 63.3% whom faced 59.8% presented CD. Bivariate analysis revealed an (p-value = .026). results only showed statistically significant moderate/severe (OR 1.878; 95% CI: 1.002 - 3.521). There no mild 1.529; 0.888 2.634). Food insecurity has a known association with prevalent impaired cognition. However, it is unknown whether food longitudinal cognitive decline among older adults. To determine associated faster in function community-dwelling adults. This retrospective cohort study used data from nationally representative sample of Medicare beneficiaries 65 years and recruited for the National Health Aging Trends Study (NHATS). Community-dwelling NHATS participants were followed up maximum 7 (mean [SD] follow-up duration, 5.4 [1.1] years). Data collected January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2020, analyzed 23, 2021, 6, 2022.Self-reported assessed 2012 2019.Primary outcomes immediate memory, delayed executive 2013 2020. Immediate recall by 10-item word-list memory task (range, 0-10, higher scores indicating more words recalled). Executive was measured clock drawing test 0-5, accurate depiction clock). Conditional fixed effects logistic regressions used test 1) onset ideation; 2); whether attenuated by assistance income support Results: Food was associated with higher odds ideation in full sample (OR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.37-2.29), among women 1.67; 1.24-2.26) men 2.06; 1.25-3.40). The association participation home-delivered meal services 0.43; 0.21-0.88). Conclusion: insecure older adults more likely consider committing suicide than secure counterparts. through services, but not other programs, could weaken this link.
