Impact of perceived severity on depression, anxiety, and insomnia among Chinese community residents during the COVID-19 lockdown

BACKGROUND
Depression,
anxiety,
and
insomnia
were
found
out
that
significant
relevance
to
the
mental
health
impact
of
coronavirus
disease
2019
(COVID-19)
lockdown.
AIM
To
examine
interrelationships
among
perceived
severity,
depression,
insomnia,
sense
security
in
Chinese
community
residents
during
COVID-19
lockdown
period.
METHODS
Participants
selected
using
simple
random
sampling
from
four
large
gated
communities
Chengdu,
China.
All
participants
invited
complete
a
survey
included
Perceived
Severity
Questionnaire,
Security
Patient
Health
Questionnaire-9,
Generalized
Anxiety
Disorder
7-item,
Insomnia
Index-7.
In
total,
568
valid
questionnaires
gathered.
Correlation
analysis
structural
equation
models
used
explore
relationship
between
security,
insomnia.
RESULTS
The
observed
prevalence
rates
27.5%,
17.6%,
16.0%,
respectively.
showed
both
severity
positively
correlated
with
[Pearson’s
r
was
anxiety
=
0.44
(P
<
0.01);
depression
0.48
0.43
-0.65
-0.53
0.01)].
Structural
modeling
bootstrap
tests
revealed
acted
as
mediator
emotional
sleep
disorders
(anxiety,
insomnia).
CONCLUSION
This
study
demonstrates
is
predictor
(namely,
insomnia)
lockdown,
acting
mediating
factor.
These
findings
suggest
interventions
for
lockdowns
may
benefit
developing
community-based
educational
programs
reduce
ensuring
stable
supply
essential
resources
promoting
social
support
networks
enhance
security.
