Daylight visualization of latent fingerprints (LFPs) is highly desirable due to its convenience and safety for inspectors. However, achieving this with details exceeding level 3 using nontoxic materials presents a significant challenge. Here, we address challenge by utilizing cyclosiloxane-linked fluorescent porous polymers (FPPs) as the developers. These FPPs were synthesized from 2,4,6,8-tetramethyl-2,4,6,8-tetravinylcyclotetrasiloxane brominated monomers via Heck reactions. The resulting FPPs, available powders in various colors, exhibit high porosity strong fluorescence. By employing classical powder dusting method LFPs 1–3 become visible on substrates, including copper, iron, aluminum, tinfoil, wood, under daylight. This approach provides resolution contrast resistance background interference colored substrates. efficient attributed contradictory electrostatic hydrogen-bonding interactions between fingerprint secretions, which ensure adhesion exclusively ridges rather than furrows. Furthermore, are noncytotoxic do not impede DNA extraction identification after LFP visualization. study represents first example daylight surpassing developers, thereby mitigating risks associated material toxicity light exposure findings highlight potential developers crime scenes. straightforward broadly applicable protocol may pave way further advancements methods LFPs.

Abstract To further explore the application of Schiff bases in latent fingerprint detection, two containing ─N═CH─ fragment at different positions on pyridine skeleton, which py‐3‐TPA with 3‐position and that locating 2‐position for py‐2‐TPA , were synthesized. Both displayed solvent‐dependent behaviors organic solvents polarities emission spectra, their solid state luminescent under a UV lamp, both could be well explained by time‐dependent density functional theory calculations, aggregation‐induced properties THF/water mixtures observed. Furthermore, surfaces three substrates visualize using compounds, clearly identify levels fingerprints features details. This work establishes foundation development Schiff‐base fluorescent dyes practical field detection.
