Abstract This study examines whether informational nudges effectively enhance adherence to the Fertiliser Act among Japanese fertiliser companies (N = 2,382) by conducting field experiments in collaboration with a national regulatory body. We find that timely submission of reports authority increased at least 5.7 percentage points, from baseline 70.3 per cent. result suggests highlighting consequences noncompliance—such as imprisonment and fines—through loss aversion message encourages compliance. These effects sustained for over year some regions, though being marginally significant. The has greatest impact both smallest largest companies.

Abstract Food consumption and production have been identified as significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Individual producer behaviors are critical in making emission‐reducing choices implementing agricultural conservation practices. Using a narrative review approach, this research examined over 100 publications evaluated behavioral experimental interventions consumers' food producers' decisions. We identify several areas where there is mixed evidence knowledge gaps. evaluate these gaps using framework we devised called CREDIBLE. This systematic provides practical checklist for policymakers academics if their meet factors before rolling out large‐scale interventions. The main criteria interventions, proposed by our framework, follows: cost‐effectiveness, replicability, evidence‐based, durability, identity‐respecting, boomerang minimizing, logistical feasibility, respect ethics.

Abstract Balancing conflicting policy goals is a key challenge in the transition to sustainable agricultural systems. An important example herbicide use reduction potentially with conservation tillage—which often strongly relies on use. We investigate joint uptake of two agri‐environmental schemes, tillage and herbicide‐free agriculture To this end, we combination detailed survey data farmer behavior, environmental agronomic data, census complete population all farmers from Switzerland. Findings based multinomial logit fixed effects indicate that, conditional observable factors, systems are not complementary, but adoption occurs for 35% farmers. Behavioral factors explain 26% emphasizing role risk taking, openness innovation, biodiversity valuations farmers' decisions. Our analysis provides broader implications assessing navigating sustainability globally.

This leads a decrease quality planning makes it more difficult focus important tasks. It found that organisations with high level perception usually resort conservative approaches. includes reducing spending new projects, frequent pricing adjustments reduce risks. Organisations adapt their strategies changing conditions, which helps avoid losses during periods uncertainty. results also show levels among managers lead employees an increase likelihood layoffs. difficulties can raise prices for products or services cover rising costs, lower maintain market competitiveness. caused by significant reduction projects technologies. resources maintaining existing assets ensuring stability. findings significantly affect decision-making.

Abstract Dairy farming in Europe faces profound environmental, social, and economic sustainability challenges, which are of significant policy interest. These challenges support the need for a transition toward uptake more sustainable dairy practices. This paper examines effects an advisory instrument “balanced information” on farmers’ preferences grass-based feeding systems using between-subjects design discrete choice experiment among sample Swedish farmers. Conceptually, we develop state-dependent utility framework with Bayesian updating to motivate impact pathway. Our results demonstrate that average, balanced information has negligible feed choices, could be consequence opposing responses information, others. Considering farmer heterogeneity based their identities prior knowledge, find some evidence treatment effects. findings highlight important policy-relevant critical reflections about overoptimistic expectations provision as nudge behavioral change

Environmental problems associated with the inappropriate use of fertilizers by rural smallholders are a growing concern in many countries. This paper contributes to literature examining whether risk preferences, time and personality traits related farmers' synthetic organic fertilizers. We rely on survey data collected from 815 farm households three rice-producing provinces eastern China empirical analyses. Results OLS rare events logistic regressions indicate that risk-seeking patience positively application fertilizer rice production but not intensity use. There is also no significant association between (synthetic or organic) In addition, do mediate nor moderate associations economic preferences Robustness analysis using two-stage probit least squares (2SPLS) model only supports these findings, suggests complement sporadically used Chinese production. The insights gained this study can provide important inputs for designing policies aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural intensification elsewhere.
