Conductive porous coordination polymers (PCPs) and metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising candidates for electrocatalysts advanced electronic devices. Tailoring the structure of conductive PCPs/MOFs is crucial achieving specific applications, but it remains challenging. Herein, we introduce a novel approach called "single-atom" strategy to tailor enhance electrocatalytic performance reduction nitrate ammonia. By incorporating atomically dispersed Ru3+ (at content about 5% per Co) into semiconducting PCPs, successfully created highly efficient PCP-based electrocatalyst named Ru–Co-pyNDI, which exhibits good structural stability improved performance. The calculated experimental results reveal that doping Co-pyNDI induces local distortion, resulting in downshift d-band center Co, turn facilitates desorption intermediates. As result, Ru–Co-pyNDI catalyst demonstrates superior NH3 production compared other heterogeneous catalysts, high Faradaic efficiency 97% an ammonia yield rate 12010 μg h–1 mgcat.–1 (0.28 mmol cm–2) under neutral aqueous conditions.
