By introducing enantiomerically pure mono-bidentate N-donor ligands (LR/LS) into Yb(btfa)3(H2O)2 and Yb(dbm)3(H2O), respectively, two pairs of chiral YbIII enantiomers, namely Yb(btfa)3LR/Yb(btfa)3LS (D-1/L-1) [Yb(dbm)3LR]·[Yb(dbm)3(C2H5OH)]/[Yb(dbm)3LS]·[Yb(dbm)3(C2H5OH)] (D-2/L-2) were isolated, where btfa- = 3-benzoyl-1,1,1-trifluoroacetonate, dbm- dibenzoylmethanate, LR/LS (-)/(+)-4,5-pinenepyridyl-2-pyrazine. D-1/L-1 possess mononuclear structures in which the ions are eight-coordinated, while D-2/L-2 show cocrystal containing Yb(dbm)3(LR/LS) Yb(dbm)3(C2H5OH) moieties eight seven-coordinated, respectively. They not only feature different molecular but also present distinct linear nonlinear optical performances. Chiral D-1 has better near infrared photo-luminescence (NIR-PL) circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) performances than D-2. More remarkably, large second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses (up to 1.25/1.28 × KDP) 18/16 times those (0.07/0.08 KDP). In addition, represent first examples lanthanide complexes with NIR-PL, NIR-CPL SHG properties.

Abstract In recent years, circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has witnessed a renaissance, due to the increased popularity of CPL as spectroscopic technique and greater accessibility instrumentation. New efficient emitters have been designed many applications, ranging from electronic devices microscopy proposed. Most examples are within visible range, while few cases near infrared (NIR) active complexes available. NIR‐CPL compounds may applications in telecommunication industry, bioassays. following, we shall give an overview developments allowing for measurements NIR‐CPL, describe chiroptical properties metal which achieve this feat.

Multifunctional materials, which exhibit diverse physical properties, are candidates for the new generation of smart devices that realize many tasks simultaneously. Particular attention is given to single-phase multifunctional materials offer effects induced by coupling between introduced properties. Complexes lanthanide(3+) ions an attractive source multifunctionality since they combine luminescent functionalities related their f-f or d-f electronic transitions with magnetic anisotropy originates from spin-orbit and crystal-field effects. The resulting single-molecule magnets (SMMs) link area functional luminophores, applicable in light-emitting diodes sensing, field molecular magnets, high-density data storage, additional advantages, e.g., fruitful magneto-optical correlations switching emission a field. It was recently shown lanthanide SMMs can provide richly expanded towards sensitivity solvent exchange, temperature, light, as well electrical such super-ionic conductivity ferroelectricity, non-centrosymmetricity- chirality-related effects, second-harmonic circularly polarized luminescence. Here, we discuss pioneering reports on use SMMs, emphasis our contribution relying functionalization 4f metal complexes through insertion into heterometallic coordination compounds.

The complexes [Eu(bpcd)(tta)], [Eu(bpcd)(Coum)], and [Tb(bpcd)(Coum)] [tta = 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetyl-acetonate, Coum 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-coumarin, bpcd N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N'-diacetate] have been synthesized characterized from photophysical thermodynamic points of view. optical chiroptical properties these complexes, such as the total luminescence, decay curves Ln(III) electronic circular dichroism, circularly polarized investigated. Interestingly, number coordinated solvent (methanol) molecules is sensitive to nature metal ion. This number, estimated by spectroscopy, >1 for Eu(III)-based <1 Tb(III)-based complexes. A possible explanation this behavior provided via study minimum energy structure obtained density functional theory (DFT) calculations on model diamagnetic Y(III) La(III) counterparts [Y(bpcd)(tta)], [Y(bpcd)(Coum)], [La(bpcd)(Coum)]. By time-dependent DFT calculations, estimation donor-acceptor (D-A) distances position S1 T1 ligand excited states involved in antenna effect was possible. These data are useful rationalizing different sensitization efficiencies (ηsens) antennae toward Eu(III) Tb(III). tta an optimal sensitizing while sensitizes better Tb(III) luminescence {ϕovl 55%; ηsens ≥ 55% complex}. Finally, [Eu(bpcd)(tta)] complex, a sizable value glum (0.26) good quantum yield (26%) were measured.

The helical twisting tendency of liquid crystals (LCs) is generally governed by the inherent configuration chiral emitter. Here, we introduce multistage inversion supramolecular chirality as well circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) manipulating ratio single enantiomeric emitters (R-PCP) to LC monomers (5CB). Increasing content R-PCP from 1 wt % 3 inverted helix LCs left-handed right-handed, accompanying a CPL sign changed positive negative. biaxiality emitters, steric effect chiral-chiral and chiral-achiral interaction, were identified reasons for sense inversion. Due strong power, 4 drove photonic band gap (PBG) match up with their emission range, leading an again high dissymmetry factor (≈1.2). Directly adjusting PBG using seldom achieved in cholesteric LCs. On this basis, achiral sensitizer PtTPBP was assembled into superstructure. generation triplet-triplet annihilation-induced upconverted downshifting opposite rotation system tuning position PBG.
