Cognitive challenges and brain structure variations are common in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) but rarely explored middle-to-old aged autistic adults. deficits that overlap between young individuals elderlies with dementia raise an important question: does compromised cognitive ability during early development drive adults to be more vulnerable pathological aging conditions, or it protect them from further decline? To answer this question, we have synthesized current theoretical models of ASD conducted a systematic literature review (Jan 1, 1980 - Feb 29, 2024) meta-analysis summarize empirical studies on deviations We findings support different theories addressed study limitations future directions. This sheds light the poorly understood consequences question raised by community pave way for identify sensitive reliable measures best predict onset, progression, prognosis ASD.

Background: There is growing awareness that the experiences of neurodivergent people during menopause are not well understood. Menopause may be particularly challenging for autistic due to common co-occurring conditions such as depression and differences in sensory processing. The few (mostly qualitative) studies explore autism suggest traits exacerbated. Methods: In an online cross-sectional survey, we examined self-reported symptoms 342 (autistic, n = 242 non-autistic, 100) at different stages their reproductive life (premenopausal [∼20% sample], menopausal [∼30%], postmenopausal [∼50%]). Results: Autistic reported significantly higher rates bothersome psychological somatic than non-autistic people, but no were observed vasomotor symptoms. Results indicated patterns psychological, somatic, between groups. People postmenopause groups negative changes symptoms, women these more women. Whether this finding related observation report before requires further investigation. Conclusion: This analysis suggests experience compared with people. Longitudinal examining change required fully understand variables impact individual
