Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques, such as quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and susceptibility-weighted (SWI), can detect iron deposition in the brain. Iron accumulation putamen (PUT) contribute to pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) atypical Parkinsonian disorders. This systematic review aimed synthesize evidence on PUT assessed by MRI techniques PD Parkinsonism syndromes. The PubMed Scopus databases were searched for relevant studies. Thirty-four studies from January 2007 October 2023 that used QSM, SWI, or other methods measure putaminal PD, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), multiple system atrophy (MSA), healthy controls (HCs) included. Most have found increased levels patients versus HCs based higher susceptibility. Putaminal correlates with worse motor scores cognitive decline PD. Evidence regarding differences between is emerging, several showing greater PSP MSA than patients. Alterations help distinguish these disorders Increased appear be associated severity progression. Thus, magnetic abnormal Parkinsonism. Moreover, quantifying may serve an biomarker monitor changes aid differential diagnosis

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disorder that causes intermittent hypoxia and fragmentation, leading to attention impairment other cognitive deficits. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) powerful modality can reveal the structural functional brain alterations associated with in OSA patients. The objective of this systematic review identify synthesize evidence on MRI biomarkers neuropsychological assessments deficits patients. We searched Scopus PubMed databases for studies used measure related alteration patients reported qualitative quantitative data association between outcomes. We also included found an findings deficits. We 19 met our inclusion criteria extracted relevant from each study. categorized into three groups based domain they used: diffusion tensor findings, functional, perfusion, metabolic assessment findings. We structural, multiple regions networks are involved processing. Abstract Background Adenotonsillar hypertrophy is the leading cause of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children, with adenotonsillectomy (AT) being most common surgical treatment. Although AT widely performed, its efficacy treating mild OSA remains uncertain. Current literature suggests that children might benefit from non-surgical management, but there a lack evidence ND studies evaluating outcomes specifically for OSA. The aim this systematic review and meta-analysis to provide conclusive insights into effectiveness improving health quality life apnea. Methods PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, Web Science databases have been searched relevant studies. We included original evaluated safety or management among pediatric patients. For quantitative analysis, data were synthesized using random-effects model R (version 4.3.3), heterogeneity was assessed statistical methods including restricted maximum-likelihood estimator I2 statistic. also conducted analyses change scores covariance estimate effect on severity OSAS. Results Our 27 after screening 1851 citations. demonstrated significant improvements Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire improved mean difference (MD) -0.32 (95% CI [-0.39; -0.25], p < 0.001). AHI decreased significantly an MD -1.45 [-2.11; -0.80], Comparison watchful waiting revealed be more effective: showed -1.22 [-1.92; -0.53], 0.001), arousal index had -1.73 [-2.95; -0.51], = 0.005). Safety indicated while generally safe, it associated minor complications such as postoperative desaturation occasional bleeding. Long-term serious adverse events rare. Conclusion effectively improves symptoms OSA, outperforming several key metrics. This supports viable option underscores importance considering individual patient factors treatment decisions.

Purpose To preliminarily examine the individual and interaction effects of hypertension obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) risk on cognitive functions (i.e., global cognition, memory, attention, executive function). Method The current study was a secondary data analysis. Forty older adults were retrieved from descriptive study. OSA measured by STOP-BANG questionnaire, self-report medications used. Spearman rho correlation two-way analysis covariance used in Results After controlling for covariates age, educational years, health conditions, body mass index, depressive symptoms), with had poorer memory attention; high better function. This effect function significant. Conclusion association between attention supported. found but unexpected. Future studies are needed to recruit diagnosed explore these effects. In patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a previous study using Go/No-Go task reported an average attention deficit. However, the temporal dynamics of such deficit are unknown. Here, we investigated whether deficits in different subdomains increased as test progressed. We also effect target frequency and speed stimulus presentation on performance.
