Abstract A stable lithium‐metal electrode can enable the shift from Li‐ion batteries to next generation chemistries such as Li−S and Li−O 2 with significant gains in energy density sustainability. This transition, however, is hindered by dendrite formation, high chemical reactivity, volume changes of Li electrode. Although recent advancements computational experimental research have deepened our understanding these issues, primary obstacles commercialization (LMBs) still persist. To address challenges, a synergistic approach that combines strategies shows great promise. In this regard, paper reviews current theoretical electrodes view initiation growth mechanisms lithium dendrites interface instability. Leveraging strengths both approaches offer holistic insight into LMB performance guide development innovative designs for electrolytes enhance stability LMBs.
