The synthesis of primary amines via the reductive amination alcohols involves a hydrogen-borrowing or hydrogen-transfer mechanism, which consists three main steps: alcohol hydroxyl dehydrogenation, carbonyl imidization, and imine hydrogenation. Heterogeneous catalysts are widely used for this reaction because their high performance amenability to separation reuse. However, efficiency is limited by dehydrogenation step, severely affected competitive adsorption NH3. We hope improve increasing efficiency. Therefore, in overview, we introduce research progress catalyzed heterogeneous metal catalysts, focusing on methods enhancing screening component acidity/alkalinity support. Finally, propose some new strategies preparation from perspective overcoming NH3 speculate design novel with future.

Abstract The catalytic performance of liquid‐phase hydrogenation 1,4‐butynediol (BYD) to 1,4‐butanediol (BDO) was studied on silica‐supported Ni catalysts prepared by impregnation, sol‐gel, and ammonia evaporation methods, respectively. Due the formation nickel phyllosilicate, species in Ni/SiO 2 ‐AE catalyst is difficult reduce at 450 °C, resulting fewer 0 active sites poor activity. As for impregnated ‐IM, its particles are prone aggregate seriously due their weak interaction with support which may be not conducive hydrogenation. On contrary, introduced sol‐gel method can homogenously embedded amorphous silica intersecting network structure high metal dispersion well physical confinement effect, greatly promotes BYD obtain BDO super selectivity.

Primary amines represent highly privileged chemicals for synthesis of polymers, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, coatings, etc. Consequently, the development efficient and green methodologies production primary are great importance in chemical industry. Owing to advantages low cost ease availability, ammonia is considered as a feasible nitrogen source N-containing compounds. Thus, transformation into has received much attention.
