We demonstrate the expression and function of voltage-gated delayed rectifier potassium channel Kv2 in vagal nodose neurons. Within sensory neurons, channels limit width broader C-type but not narrow A-type action potential. nucleus solitary tract (nTS), location terminal field, does influence glutamate release. However, limits potential discharge nTS relay These data suggest a critical role for vagal-nTS reflex arc.

Respiratory difficulties and mortality following severe cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) result primarily from malfunctions of respiratory pathways the paralyzed diaphragm. Nonetheless, individuals with CSCI can experience partial recovery function through neuroplasticity. For decades, researchers have revealed potential mechanism nerve plasticity after CSCI, made progress in tissue healing functional recovery. While most existing studies on injuries focused cord, there is a paucity research respiratory-related brain structures such injuries. Given interconnectedness brain, traumatic changes to former also impact latter. Consequently, are other therapeutic targets consider? This review introduces anatomy physiology typical centers, explores alterations injuries, delves into structural foundations modified patients CSCI. Additionally, we propose that magnetic resonance neuroimaging holds promise study post-CSCI. By studying hope guide future clinical work.

Abstract Patients diagnosed with heart failure have high rates of mortality and morbidity. Based on promising preclinical studies, vagal nerve stimulation has been trialled in these patients using whole electrical stimulation, but the results mixed. This is, at least part, due to an inability selectively recruit activity specific fibres within vagus as well not knowing which ‘therapeutic’ are. symposium review focuses a population cardiac‐projecting efferent cell bodies located dorsal motor nucleus new method targeting projections potential treatment failure.
