N-Donor tetrazole (TZ) derivatives possess physicochemical features, such as good thermostability/chemical stability, abundant coordination modes, high dipole moment, formation enthalpy, basicity and acidity, well fluorescence/luminescent magnetic behaviors, which make them widely utilized in both academic industrial fields, namely medicinal/biological chemistry, chemistry materials science. This review shows the progress synthesis, structures, catalytic applications activities of copper compounds derived from TZ derivatives, including polymers (CPs) versatile functional metal–organic materials.

In this study, a hypergolic linker (dicyanamide, DCA) and high-energy nitrogen-rich ligand (1,5-diaminotetrazole, DAT) were applied to construct metal–organic frameworks (HEMOFs) with property. Three novel (MOFs) synthesized via mild method fascinating 2D polymeric architectures, they could ignite spontaneously upon contact white fuming nitric acid (WFNA). The gravimetric energy densities of the three HEMOFs all exceeded 26.2 kJ·g–1. cupric MOF exhibits highest volumetric density 27.5 kJ·g–1 51.3 kJ·cm–3, respectively. By adjusting metal cations, ligands linkers can improve performance MOFs. This work provides strategy for manufacturing MOFs as potential fuels.

With the development of aerospace science and technology, requirements for propellants are increasingly high. The thermal decomposition behavior ammonium perchlorate (AP) directly influences combustion performance composite solid propellants. Catalysts play an important role in improving AP. In this study, three novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were prepared using a straightforward method, namely Co[N(CN)2]2 (1; nitrogen content: 43.5%), Cu[N(CN)2]2 (2; 43.0%), Pb[N(CN)2]2 (3; 24.8%). Their crystal structures characterized analyzed through single-crystal X-ray diffraction, forming interesting three-dimensional architectures. Moreover, derived catalysts under air (4, 6, 8) or (5, 7, 9) atmosphere generated by heating MOFs 1, 2, 3–500 ​°C at rate 5 ​°C·min−1. catalyst 4 exhibited best performance. It reduced peak temperature AP 81.9 ​°C, increased heat release from 785 ​kJ·g−1 to 1232 ​kJ·g−1, decreased apparent activation energy (Ea) 223 ​kJ·mol−1 145 ​kJ·mol−1.
