Background The nature of the relationship between dissociation and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has clinical nosological importance. aim this study was to evaluate evidence for a dissociative subtype PTSD in two independent samples examine pattern personality (PD) comorbidity associated with PTSD. Methods Latent profile analyses were conducted on items reflecting derealization depersonalization archived data: Study 1 included 360 male Vietnam War Veterans combat-related PTSD; 2 284 female active duty service personnel high base rate exposure sexual trauma. Results latent analysis yielded three-class solution both samples: model defined by moderate classes class marked severity coupled levels dissociation. Approximately 15% sample 30% classified into class. Women (but not men) group exhibited higher comorbid avoidant borderline PD diagnoses. Conclusions provide support also suggest that may play role frequent co-occurrence among women. These results are pertinent on-going revisions DSM consideration should be given incorporating revised criteria. Depression Anxiety 00:1–10, 2012. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

We investigated whether potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) during a combat deployment may lead to PTSD through distinct pathways from danger-based events. also examined the prevalence of perpetration-based PMIEs, which service members behaved in ways that violated their own moral values, and betrayal-based personal expectations were by trusted others.Using sample 867 active duty Marines single infantry battalion engaged heavy ground while deployed Afghanistan, structural equation model was built examine relationships between perpetration- experiences, peritraumatic dissociation reported at 1 month postdeployment, guilt/shame, anger, symptoms 8 months postdeployment. The relationship PMIEs mediated anger (β = .14). There marginal evidence mediation shame guilt .09), .08). No significant direct found any these 3 types subsequent PTSD. Perceived perpetration betrayal accounted for above beyond exposure. Over third experiencing or PMIEs.The associations with PTSD, controlling events, highlight limitations conceptualizations treatments based on fear helplessness as sole etiologic factors. In Brief Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a relatively common mental disorder, with an estimated lifetime prevalence of ∼5.7%. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) are the most often studied effective psychotherapies for PTSD. However, evidence inadequate to conclude which treatment superior. Therefore, we conducted meta-analysis confirm effectiveness EMDR compared CBT adult We searched Medline, PubMed, Ebsco, Proquest, Cochrane (1989–2013) identify relevant randomized control trials comparing included 11 studies (N = 424). Although all had methodological limitations, meta-analyses total PTSD scores revealed that was slightly superior CBT. Cumulative confirmed this subscale symptoms indicated better decreased intrusion arousal severity Avoidance not significantly different between groups. may be more suitable than patients prominent or symptoms. limited number poor quality original suggest caution when drawing final conclusions. There have been changes to the criteria for diagnosing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in DSM-5 and are proposed ICD-11.To investigate impact of diagnostic PTSD ICD-11 using a large multisite trauma-exposed sample structured clinical interviews.Randomly selected injury patients admitted four hospitals were assessed 72 months post trauma (n = 510). Structured interviews major depressive episode, as well self-report measures disability quality life administered.Current prevalence under scoring was not significantly different from DSM-IV (6.7% v. 5.9%, z 0.53, P 0.59). However, lower than ICD-10 (3.3% 9.0%, -3.8, P<0.001). The current higher 3.3%, 2.5, 0.01). Using tended show rates comorbidity with depression slightly association disability. The systems performed ways terms levels depression, but on other broad key indicators they relatively similar. overlap between those diagnosed by substantial portion met one set criteria. This represents challenge research because phenotype that is studied may be markedly according system used.

The Youth Anxiety Measure for DSM-5 (YAM-5) is a new self- and parent-report questionnaire to assess anxiety disorder symptoms in children adolescents terms of the contemporary classification system. International panels childhood researchers clinicians were used construct scale consisting two parts: part one consists 28 items measures major disorders including separation disorder, selective mutism, social panic generalized whereas contains 22 that focus on specific phobias (given its overlap with situational phobias) agoraphobia. In general, face validity was good; most successfully linked intended disorders. Notable exceptions mutism items, which frequently considered as some phobia especially natural environment, other type, regularly assigned an incorrect category.
