Feeding and eating disorders (FEDs) are a heterogeneous grouping of at the mind-body interface, with typical onset from childhood into emerging adulthood. They occur along spectrum disordered compensatory weight management behaviors, low to high body weight. Psychiatric comorbidities norm. In contrast other major psychiatric disorders, first-line treatments for FEDs mainly psychological and/or nutrition-focused, medications playing minor adjunctive role. Patients, carers clinicians all have identified personalization treatment as priority. Yet, FEDs, evidence base supporting this is limited. Importantly, related behaviors can serious physical consequences may put patient's life risk. these cases, immediate safety risk considerations least period need be prioritized over efforts care. This paper systematically reviews several key domains that relevant characterization individual patient FED aimed management. These include symptom profile, clinical subtypes, severity, staging, complications consequences, antecedent concomitant conditions, social functioning quality life, neurocognition, cognition emotion, dysfunctional cognitive schemata, personality traits, family history, early environmental exposures, recent stigma, protective factors. Where possible, validated assessment measures use in practice identified. The limitations current pointed out, possible directions future research highlighted. also novel approaches providing more fine-grained sophisticated ways personalize such those utilize neurobiological markers. Eating disorders are an emerging global health crisis, with significant implications for both physical and psychological well-being. Disordered eating behaviors in childhood can serve as precursors to more severe if left untreated. Background: Body image disturbance has been associated with various health conditions and the potential to trigger development of unhealthy behaviors, including dysfunctional attitudes eating which may evolve into disorders. This study explores relationship between body variables-such as global self-worth, physical attractiveness-and continuum behaviors. Methods: A canonical correlation analysis was performed assess multivariate attitudinal perceptual variables a total 113 cases analyzed. Results: The findings indicate that intuitive positive (including self-worth attractiveness) are most strongly functional end continuum, while disordered behaviors dissatisfaction linked end. Conclusions: These results suggest interventions targeting emotional dimensions dissatisfaction, whether delivered in vivo or via virtual reality (e.g., weight exposure), facilitate shift toward healthier, more along continuum.

Paranjothy and Wade's (2024) meta-analysis revealed that disordered eating was robustly consistently associated with greater self-criticism lower self-compassion across samples. It is well known even evidence-based treatments for disorders (EDs) do not produce long-lasting effects many patients. Additionally, it unclear whether existing "mainstream" ED effectively reduce shame increase self-compassion, when they intend to so. In this commentary, we assert findings should inform the integration of interventions within treatment. We argue shame, a related but distinct construct, be strongly considered as primary intervention target in seek self-compassion. hypothesize directly addressing bolstering at start treatment may foster higher engagement more durable effects. introduce potential adjunctive self-criticism, enhance alongside or treatments. Because are shared correlates EDs commonly co-occurring psychopathology, contend possibility transdiagnostic Shame, important targets explore future research.

Abstract Paranjothy and Wade's (2024) meta‐analysis identifying relations between self‐criticism, self‐compassion, disordered eating prompted recommendations for augmenting existing front‐line interventions with compassion‐focused therapy (CFT) principles among self‐critical individuals. While in theory this sounds promising, the reality is that evidence supporting use of CFT disorders (EDs) limited. I argue before any clinical can made, more research needed to better understand utility CFT, as well what precise role self‐criticism self‐compassion play context intervention. In commentary, present three critical avenues future necessary achieve level understanding. These include: (1) moderators response trials so be safely delivered those likely benefit from approach avoided experience harm; (2) establishing mediators change we whether works through theory‐specific or common mechanisms; (3) testing causal impact intervention components knowledge on how most effectively trigger probable gathered. This commentary will ideally spark further discussion, collaboration, rigorous dedicated improving ED outcomes. Public Significance discusses importance towards enhancing understanding disorders. It calls response, mechanisms change, effective components.
