ABSTRACT How societal, ecological and infrastructural attributes interact to influence wildlife movement is uncertain. We explored whether neighbourhood socioeconomic status environmental quality were associated with coyote ( Canis latrans ) patterns in Los Angeles, California assessed the performance of integrated social–ecological models. found that coyotes living more anthropogenically burdened regions (i.e. higher pollution, denser development, etc.) had larger home ranges showed greater daily displacement mean step length than less regions. Coyotes experiencing differing levels anthropogenic burdens demonstrated divergent selection for vegetation, road densities other habitat conditions. Further, models included societal covariates performed better only features linear infrastructure. This study provides a unique lens examining drivers urban movement, which should be applicable planners conservationists when building equitable, healthy wildlife‐friendly cities.

Social media and other internet-based, community generated datasets are emerging as valuable tools in advancing our understanding of biodiversity distributions across urban environments. However, it is unclear how best to harness these data for managing mitigating human-wildlife conflicts an urbanizing world. In this study, we analyzed 2584 posts comments on carnivore sightings, human-carnivore interactions, attitudes towards carnivores via the neighborhood-based social platform Nextdoor, focusing 52 peri-urban neighborhoods near Angeles National Forest California. We focused two most frequently discussed species: coyote (Canis latrans) American black bear (Ursus americanus). social-ecological covariates potential predictors reports, also compared sightings species collected logging application, iNaturalist. found that whiter, wealthier, less densely populated closer national forest tended report more conflict, while conflict did not show a clear relationship with metrics racial makeup or intensity. wealthier had higher percentages population registered indicating possible bias participation. Comments expressing positive bears were almost five times common than coyotes. Finally, number Nextdoor reports both 11 numerous observations iNaturalist within same window time locations. conclude can be viable predicting interactions. utility coexistence will nullified if researchers managers do fully account socioeconomic biases influencing who participates reporting process. Building inclusive accessible could therefore beneficial equity wildlife engaging diverse public nature.

Abstract This study investigated the dynamics of perceived livestock depredation over last 2 years (from 2021 to 2022) in villages close Mkomazi National Park Tanzania. The findings revealed that sheep were most frequently affected (57.1%), followed by goats (36.7%) and cattle (6.1%). Attacks primarily occurred at home (59.2%) during night (65.3%), with a higher prevalence dry season (75.5%). majority respondents (81.6%) decrease attacks. Logistic regression indicated village proximity park as significant predictor explaining reported incidents related depredation, closer experiencing risks. Gender, age, education level, resident status showed no correlation incidents. Spotted hyena sightings varied significantly based on (p = 0.039), while other factors differences. Mitigation measures against included guarding (28.3%), employing noise scaring tactics (42.2%), utilizing domestic dogs (29.4%). These offer valuable insights into human-wildlife conflicts inform targeted interventions for mitigating losses not only surveyed but also areas globally facing similar challenges.
