The establishment of ecological networks is crucial for biodiversity conservation, especially at broad spatial scales. It still challenging to develop an network construction method based on landscape connectivity multiple species. purpose this study propose a multi-species framework approach constructing and determine the restoration priority four focal mammal species across protected areas in western mountains Henan Province, China. We built each by using circuit theory least-cost path models, integrated corridors key barrier results showed that was closely related dispersal capacity. For with higher capacity, all core were interconnected have alternative paths, seemed be well connected. With decline ability, became more complex not connected, migration exceed capability emerged. important consider needs species-specific management plans. Key areas, which significant impacts migration, are mainly land use dominated cropland. Our research indicates methods proposed can help may facilitate conservation efforts species, poor distribution movement data.

Abstract Context The leopard ( Panthera pardus ), the only large carnivore species occurring in central North China, has undergone substantial range contraction and population decline due to anthropogenic pressure across region. Objectives In this study, we aimed map its current suitable habitats assess degree of connectivity between core inform future conservation planning big cat at landscape scale. Methods We conducted study China (34°11´ ~ 43°49´N, 103°11´ 123°54´E, about 936,000 km 2 ). collected occurrence locations (N = 196) leopards from 2014–2020, modeled habitat suitability using an “ensemble” distribution model by incorporating environmental variables. then identified potential dispersal corridors patches (≥ 100 ) through analysis. Results preferred humid forests higher elevations with less human disturbance. Their were highly fragmented, main located Shanxi, Shaanxi, border Gansu Ningxia provinces. Among all 8,679 habitats, 14 (139–1,084 , mean 495.21 a total area 6,933 among which 25.26% (1,751 are covered nature reserves 11 confirmed occurrence. also 8 least-cost pathways these average length 57.22 km. Conclusions Our results revealed that, persisting fragmented fragile habitats. remaining should be considered managed as regional meta-population for their long-term persistence human-dominated landscape.

Protection of large carnivores is a global biodiversity conservation issue. Habitat fragmentation has had negative impact on the abundance and distribution leopards (Panthera pardus) worldwide. Understanding survival in these human dominated fragmented landscapes major challenge. This study was conducted to assess habitat suitability for North China leopard pardus japonensis) China, determine connectivity corridors potential areas restoration support leopards. We used occurrence points maximun entropy model examine suitability. Based graph-based metric (the probability connectivity, PC), we evaluated within each protected area. Through circuit theory modeling least-cost path method, determined important that were most likely improve habitat. The results showed forest coverage population density (POP) variables contributed prediction, with positive association non-linear relationship increasing POP. Approximately 17% core suitable habitats located current areas. PC value area positively correlated its (r=0.475, p<0.05). mainly between groups or (composed highly connected areas). highlighted protection should be carried out multiple scales, such as area, areas, groups. research methods proposed our could also provide insights sustainable management other carnivores.

Abstract North China leopard ( Panthera pardus japonensis ) is the most widespread subspecies of and one rare endangered species in China. It currently confined to several isolated natural reserves, little known about its habitat network connectivity with land use changes. This study was conducted assess impacts changes on landscape for Great Taihang Region. Circuit theory‐based models least‐cost path analyses were used delineate pathways suitable movement, evaluate connectivity. The results revealed that there 37 paths 1990 38 2020. area forest increased from 57,142.74 km 2 74,836.64 , percentage increasing 26.61% 34.85%. In general, increase promoted at broad spatial scales. improvement not always consistent changes, a slightly decreasing trend some key movement barrier areas high intensity human activities. Improving scales as important protecting habitats (natural reserves) where lives. Our can serve an example exploring relationships between conservation limited pattern data. information proved be critical enhancing concern planning reserves network.
