Amoebae are one major group of protists that widely found in natural and engineered environments. They a significant threat to human health not only because many them pathogenic but also due their unique role as an environmental shelter for pathogens. However, unsolved issue the amoeba-bacteria relationship is why so bacteria live within amoeba hosts while they can independently By using facultative amoeba-

Abstract Amoeba-bacteria interactions are prevalent in both natural ecosystems and engineered environments. Amoebae, as essential consumers, hold significant ecological importance within ecosystems. Besides, they can establish stable symbiotic associations with bacteria. Copper plays a critical role amoeba predation by either killing or restricting the growth of ingested bacteria phagosomes. However, certain have evolved mechanisms to persist phagosomal vacuole, evading antimicrobial defenses. Despite these insights, impact copper on relationships between amoebae remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated effects stress their Our findings revealed that elevated concentration adversely affected altered cellular fate. Symbiont type significantly influenced responses stress. Beneficial symbionts maintained stability under stress, but parasitic exhibited enhanced colonization amoebae. Furthermore, favored transition beneficial toward host’s benefit. Conversely, pathogenic hosts were exacerbated This study sheds light intricate response soil amoeba-bacteria systems providing new insights into dynamics abiotic factors. Additionally, results underscore potential risks accumulation environment for pathogen transmission biosafety.

Опубликована: Июнь 1, 2024

BACKGROUND: Naegleria fowleri is a free-living amoeba (FLA) ubiquitous to the environment. Although harmless when ingested, it can access person's brain through nasal cavities and cause an acute infection known as primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM). METHODS: A scoping literature review presenting valuable information healthcare providers about critical features pathogenesis of N. by synthesizing existing databases accessible on National Library Medicine (NCBI) platform. RESULTS: The prodromal stage PAM vague often misdiagnosed viral or bacterial meningitis, regardless treatments supportive care, patients rapidly succumb once symptoms appear. Delayed ineffective along with unnecessary tests procedures, irreversible damage ultimately lead death. Additionally, exact mechanism action for treatment remains unclear, standard therapeutic protocol recommended Centers Disease Control Prevention (CDC) consists aggressive but unreliable combination antibiotics. CONTRIBUTION TO EVIDENCE-BASED CARE: rare disease high fatality rate, so prioritizing prevention early detection highlights importance preparedness in settings. postmortem tissue examination typically required confirm diagnosis. Overall, raising awareness risks prompt diagnosis crucial reducing incidence impact this deadly disease.

Antibiotic resistance poses a significant threat to human health. While most studies focus on bacteria, interactions between antibiotics and other crucial microbial groups like protists remain uncertain. This study investigates how interact with examines these impact the fate of genes. It reveals that amoebae exhibit high eight high-risk environmental antibiotics, accumulating quantities within their cells. Wild amoeboid strains from distant locations carry substantial antibiotic genes (ARGs) metal (MRGs), heterogeneity single species. Amoeboid symbionts pathogens predominantly Paraburkholderia have reduced genomes fewer compared free-living strains, while amoeba-endogenous Stenotrophomonas maltophilia does not significantly genome size. suggests hosts serve as temporary medium facilitating its transmission. In summary, unveils soil represent unexpected hotspots for Future research should assess effects often-overlooked explore role in spreading ARGs MRGs ecosystems. Incorporating into broader is recommended, highlighting significance One Health perspective.
