Parental
care

evolution
coloration,

dichromatism,

be

factors,

color

into
evolutionary
pressures

Adaptations
of
post-hatching
animals
have
attracted
far
more
study
than
embryonic
responses
to
environmental
challenges,
but
recent
research
suggests
that
we
underestimated
the
complexity
and
flexibility
embryos.
We
advocate
a
dynamic
view
embryos
as
organisms
capable
responding
-
on
both
ecological
evolutionary
timescales
their
developmental
environments.
By
viewing
in
this
way,
rather
assuming
an
inability
pre-hatching
stages
adapt
respond,
can
broaden
ontogenetic
breadth
research.

Parenting
is
considered
a
key
evolutionary
innovation
that
contributed
to
the
diversification
and
expansion
of
vertebrates.
However,
we
know
little
about
how
such
diversity
evolved.
Amphibians
are
an
ideal
group
in
which
identify
ecological
factors

facilitated
or
constrained
evolution

origin
of
parental
care
is
a
central
question
in
evolutionary
biology,
and
understating
the
evolution

behaviour
requires
quantifying
benefits

Anurans
of
the
family
Centrolenidae
are
a
highly
diverse
clade
Neotropical
treefrogs.

last
two
decades,
glassfrogs
have
become
model
system
for
studies
in
ecology
and
evolutionary
biology,
part
because
their
taxonomy
phylogenetic
relationships

relatively
well
established.

there
still

gaps
our
knowledge,
