Variability in space use among conspecifics can emerge from foraging strategies that track available resources, especially riverscapes promote high synchrony between prey pulses and consumers. Projected changes riverscape hydrological regimes due to water management climate change accentuate the need understand natural variability animal its implications for population dynamics ecosystem function. Here, we used long-term tracking of Common Snook (Centropomus undecimalis) movement trophic Shark River, Everglades National Park 2012 2023 test how specialization individuals (i.e., Eadj) seasonally, it is influenced by yearly conditions, relationship individual niche. exhibited seasonal use, with maximum (high dissimilarity) wet season. The degree increased over years association greater marsh flooding duration, which produced important subsidies. Also, there were threshold responses as a function floodplain conditions. Greater results decrease snook niche size. These show influence resource (both prey), providing insight into forecasted hydroclimatic scenarios may shape habitat selection processes mobile

Abstract Context Marine restoration is increasingly recognized as a key activity to regenerate ecosystem integrity, safeguard biodiversity, and enable ocean sustainability. Global policies such the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework include area-based targets improve integrity connectivity. Achieving these requires scaling up in ecologically socially meaningful ways. Objectives The objective was establish consistent language framework for seascape practitioners that complements existing marine guidelines can help achieve cross-scale targets. Methods We proposed integration of 5Cs ecology—Context, Configuration, Connectivity, Consideration scale, Culture— offer valuable advancing practice policy. synthesized ecological social science evidence demonstrate how be applied efforts. Results established recommended four operational pathways: (1) focusing on recovery interconnected habitats across land–sea interface; (2) integrating from site selection through monitoring; (3) representing social, historical, cultural, variables when assessing suitability; (4) fostering transdisciplinary collaborations support integrative, multifaceted projects. Conclusions Integrating landscape ecology concepts methods into coastal will effective regenerative actions. Applying global more strategic, inclusive, seascapes.

Abstract Although it is well established that human activities are linked to the loss of seagrasses worldwide, influence anthropogenic disturbances on habitat fragmentation seagrass meadows less understood. This information essential identify how humans modifying seascapes and what pose greatest risk seagrasses, which pertinent given rapid urbanization occurring in coastal areas. study examined an endangered Posidonia australis varied relation several (i.e. population, marine infrastructure, terrestrial run‐off catchment land‐usage) within 10 estuaries across 620 km coastline New South Wales, Australia. When comparing between estuaries, P. was significantly greater adjacent highly populated metropolitan centres – generally Greater Sydney region. At sites density boat moorings most important predictor fragmentation, but there also evidence higher with increased numbers jetties oyster aquaculture leases. These results suggest will become more pervasive as population continues grow estuarine development increases. Strategies mitigate meadow could include prohibiting construction other artificial structures areas where present or promoting environmentally friendly designs for infrastructure. knowledge support ongoing management actions attempting balance conservation seagrasses.

Introduction Coastal detrital bottoms (CDB) are one of the most extensive habitats continental shelf worldwide, in upper levels circalittoral zone. Hosting a diverse community structured by sediment grain size, trophic interactions and calcified organisms, CDB exhibit important ecological functions. In Mediterranean Sea, constituted recent elements partly provided adjacent infralittoral ecosystems. Since 2010s, offshore extension many Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) has resulted incorporation vast areas CDB, raising issue their management. The Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) embraced concept an ecosystem-based approach involving taking into account functioning marine related ecosystem services. purpose this paper is to propose quality index (EBQI) tested on from north-western focusing mainly epibenthic assemblages. Methods first step been define conceptual model functioning, including main compartments relative weighting, then identify appropriate assessment methods potential descriptors. Twenty-nine sites were sampled along coast Provence French Riviera (Southern France). Study chosen with view encompassing wide range hydrological conditions human pressures. Results Very well-preserved found without trawling terrigenous inputs, while impacted low-ES located vicinity urbanized areas. cover rhodoliths characterizes seascape might be indicator good ES reduced pressure. However, absence may also induced natural phenomena. Discussion EBQI designed for proved representative useful functional based some descriptors have shown limitations should further explored. We highlight here priority establishing corresponding societal demand (e.g., European Directives, Barcelona convention) as basis broad large-scale assessment, practical reasons. stress need better apprehend role macro-infauna extend over wider geographical scale.

Abstract Macrophyte foundation species provide both habitat structure and primary production, loss of these habitats can alter interactions lead to changes in energy flow food webs. Extensive seagrass meadows Florida Bay have recently experienced a widespread due Thalassia testudinum mass mortality event 2015 associated with prolonged hypersalinity bottom-water anoxia. Using stable isotope analysis paired Bayesian mixing models, we investigated the basal resource use seven seagrass-associated consumers across areas affected by die-off. Three years after die-off, did not differ for collected inside outside die-off areas. Instead, showed seasonal patterns most important wet season (58%), while epiphytes were dry (44%). Additionally, intraspecific spatial variability was lower compared season. We unable detect legacy effect major disturbance on common Bay.
