The complex interplay between landscape connectivity, climate fluctuations, and land use transformations profoundly affects ecosystem health, functionality, human well-being on a global scale. However, these interconnected issues are often not addressed collectively in studies, conservation strategies, or plans, particularly at the This paper introduces, for first time CCL Nexus - an integrated approach to studying Connectivity, Climate, Land use/cover change relationship better understand resolve dynamics. Additionally, PANDORA model implementation is presented simulate coupled scenarios across different intervals. aim assess their combined effects bio-energy connectivity from 2001 2020 with projections into future (2041-2060 2081-2100) based scenarios. Results show that while (i.e., increased aridity leading decline vegetation metabolism yield due water stress) have modest impact, changes, urbanization, significantly affect connectivity. Conversely, naturalization scenario appears insufficient counterbalance simulated urban growth. These findings highlight need localized approaches planning address challenges effectively. Furthermore, they shed light both potential limitations of unraveling complexities nexus Mediterranean landscapes. Overall, study advocates integrating concept comprehensive multilevel frameworks promote biodiversity enhance socio-ecological system sustainability resilience.

ABSTRACT Aim On‐the‐ground conservation efforts require managers to balance various and sometimes conflicting goals. For instance, areas important for conserving threatened endangered species may have little spatial agreement with high functional redundancy. Using prioritisation tools can further complicate prioritisations if diversity metrics identify different high‐priority areas. We compared five community‐level birds across the conterminous US how much existed between each before after using a framework. Location Contiguous US. Methods examined among (a priori) posteriori) integer linear programming. posteriori outputs 10% 30% also assessed data layer correlation (i.e., overlap) priori posteriori. Results As expected, were poorly moderately correlated (median = 0.31, range 0.11–0.71), but all solutions had of agreement. Accordingly, our identified as priority conservation, none aligning well current protected (mean 13%–15% agreement). However, approach allowed us include continuity constraint (identify adjacent pixels) easily find Main Conclusions Metric depended on or evaluation, highlighting managers' challenges when deciding where enact conservation. Given these challenges, best support multiple‐objective, complex large planning problems. Importantly, maps agreed in areas, suggesting aggregates several could instill certainty decision‐making obtained at times. Overall, results underscore critical importance generating useful on‐the‐ground management, carefully selecting biodiversity that reflect goals employing software solutions.

ABSTRACT Public parks and protected areas across the United States provide critical opportunities for nature society, as burgeoning population continues to grow, protecting inland freshwater riparian systems from overuse will require new conservation strategies. Especially considering rapidly developing regions like Intermountain West, which retains some of nation's most ecologically recreationally important resources, finding long‐term solutions aimed at sustainable outdoor recreation visitor‐use behaviours assist in natural area conservation. Multiple‐use national forests have received less attention opposed areas. In this work, I highlight how various recreational activities (e.g., shoreline hiking, boating, angling) influence integrity ecosystems. cover influences Forest Service's Regions 1 4. Global warming is occurring at an accelerated rate in the Arctic compared to other parts of planet with sea-ice declines being among most striking manifestations climate-related changes. Impacts ongoing environmental change have been documented for biota throughout marine ecosystems from protists top predators. Ice-dependent species specific habitat needs are particularly vulnerable The ringed seal (Pusa hispida) ice-associated endemic that gives birth and rests snow caves built drifts over holes sea ice created maintained by these seals. In this study we create a snow-on-sea-ice reproductive lair model seals Svalbard Archipelago (Norway), hot-spot warming. We use SnowModel, physics-based distribution evolution simulation system, as core model. quantifies depth blowing fluxes also relates variables availability habitat. This was accomplished developing ecologically informed variable potential function fluxes. Model simulations were performed period September 1987 – August 2021 (34 years) on 500 m × grid using daily time-step. Field observations gridded analyses concentration near-surface (+10 m) atmospheric forcing (air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, wind speed direction) incorporated within simulations. results show both decreasing last two decades. Abstract In response to mounting wildfire risks, land managers across the country will need dramatically increase proactive management (e.g. fuel and forest health treatments). While human communities vary widely in their vulnerability impacts of fire, these discrepancies have rarely informed prioritizations for mitigation treatments. The ecological values ecosystem services provided by forests also typically been secondary considerations. To identify locations conterminous US where is likely be effective at reducing severity yield co‐benefits vulnerable values, we developed a set spatial models that estimated potential (based on hazard biophysical conditions) either included or excluded information communities, services. We then compared areas with high alone refined ‘focal areas’ overlaid social considerations quantify benefits targeted Inclusion substantially increased representation focal relative model considered alone. For instance, restoration would cover 28% greater imperilled species richness, 45% water importance 26% more families falling below poverty line. By examining overlap between our U.S. Forest Service top ranked firesheds (a prominent existing prioritization scheme), show analysis can help target efforts within particularly and/or value, providing an important compliment scheme based largely risk structures. Our results highlight considering factors when implementing treatments provide actionable guidance integrating into prioritizations. Read free Plain Language Summary this article Journal blog.
