Abstract Microalgae are well-known photosynthetic microorganisms used as cell factories for the production of relevant biotechnological compounds. Despite outstanding characteristics attributed to microalgae, their industrial-scale still struggles with scale-up problems and economic feasibility. One important bottleneck is lack suitable online sensors reliable monitoring biological parameters, mostly concentrations intracellular components, in microalgae bioprocesses. Software provide an approach improving those process parameters that difficult quantify directly therefore only indirectly accessible. Their use aims improve productivity microalgal bioprocesses through better monitoring, control automation, according current demands Industry 4.0. In this review, a description components interest candidates cultivation, overview software sensors, some available approaches tools, state-of-the-art design cultivation presented. The latter grouped on basis measurement methods sensor inputs, employing either optical or non-optical techniques, combination both. Abstract Komagataella phaffii , also known as Pichia pastoris is a powerful host for recombinant protein production, in part due to its exceptionally strong and tightly controlled P AOX1 promoter.
