The principle of influencing oscillation amplitudes a primary system via secondary attachments can be enhanced with inclusion nonlinear mechanisms towards energy absorption. This work exploits such scheme, termed the NegSV device, which harnesses geometrically mechanism to create negative stiffness for vibration attenuation. suggested device succeeds in shifting characteristics and, therefore, alters overall dynamics without additional mass requirements. top part structure act as resonator respect lower by matching respective resonant frequencies and thus directing at specified locations. Analytical solutions demonstrate improvement dynamic performance system, is modified attachment proposed device. Physical testing on 3 dimensional frame further performed, shaking table tests, mounted storey experimental structure. experiment reveals reduction acceleration inter-storey drift response all levels below retrofit, while requirement increased top-storey drifts identified. Nonlinear finite element analyses are finally performed detailed numerical model, agreement measurements exploited mechanism's design. shows significant potential attenuating structural vibration, offering benefit ease installation.
