Abstract Objective An increasing demand for inpatient treatment adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) during and after the Covid‐19 pandemic contrasts limited capacity long waiting times. The current pilot study evaluated an outpatient group therapy (GT) as early intervention AN prior to treatment. Methods Seventeen female who participated at GT (intervention group, INT) were compared 16 without (treatment‐as‐usual, TAU). BMI, eating disorder psychopathology motivation of change (MoC) assessed three timepoints. Results Comparing pre‐ versus post‐ participation, we identified a significant increase MoC trend towards decreased AN‐specific psychopathology. INT TAU adolescents, found lower admission different BMI courses: While time, did not show decrease resulting in higher admission. Conclusions suggest positive effects setting Further research larger sample sizes is necessary validate results.
