City road verges often represent existing green space and provide opportunities for ecological enhancement. Urban greenspace improvement initiatives at the residential verge scale require genuine community support engagement success. We examined a community-based voluntary assisted greening program designed to enhance connectivity using native plants in local municipality Perth, Western Australia. A social survey of verge-greening participants non-participants was conducted understand factors associated with involvement. Results indicated general resident program, where both groups viewed objectives positively. However, were less convinced, than participants, likelihood that would achieve its aims merits some aims. This paper provides insight into tool developing urban enhancing natural values roadside level.

Abstract The bioblitz phenomenon has recently branched into cities, presenting exciting opportunities for local governments to channel participants’ efforts toward issues. City Nature Challenge (CNC) is one such initiative that been quickly uptaken by hundreds of municipalities worldwide. Despite high participation, we still lack a framework evaluating how the CNC contributes biodiversity knowledge and inform government practices. Here, develop tool present case study illustrates its applicability. We demonstrate collected records contributed better understanding contemporary, patterns provided more realistic representation understudied groups as insects fungi. Importantly, show presented with cost-effective make informed, evidence-based management policy decisions, improve education engagement programs, foster cross-council collaborations, support stronger sense environmental stewardship within community.

The escalating biodiversity crisis, coupled with the increasing frequency of droughts and anticipated water shortages due to climate change, necessitates a shift towards biodiversity-led landscape architecture, including domestic gardens. Traditionally viewed as high-maintenance spaces emphasising tidiness, gardens can significantly impact urban green infrastructure species richness. This paper explores concept ‘savage gardens’—untamed natural representing fourth nature approach, incorporating wild neglected areas. Despite potential challenges in public appreciation, it is argued that savage offer substantial benefits, such reduced maintenance, increased biodiversity, enhanced resilience change. By reframing perception ‘savage’ from biophobic reconnection nature, are proposed viable solution for balancing aesthetics, ecosystem services, landscapes, promoting more sustainable future face emergency.

Abstract Nature connectedness can promote pro‐environmental behaviour and psychological well‐being, but little is known about how nature be strengthened. Interventions that seek to enhance by promoting direct contact may impractical because urban areas often lack opportunities for interactions with in the daily lives of people. This study examines effects a gratitude journal exercise on connectedness, engagement wildlife gardening. Participants ( N = 114) were either asked write down three things relating they grateful over 14‐day period or assigned one two control groups (a traditional condition an activity list condition). Compared groups, there no significant differences any outcome variables during at 1‐week 3‐month follow‐ups. However, increases all those emerged independent group. Qualitative data analysis suggests promoted generating self‐knowledge as well positive emotions attitudes. Moreover, participants noted made them think new ways, presumably through answering survey questions connectedness. We suggest mere regularly reflecting one's relationship increase encourage people contemplate interconnectedness between themselves could viable strategy strengthen human–nature relationships, especially nature. Abstract Rapid anthropogenic changes to natural landscapes are increasing the frequency and severity of human-wildlife impacts (HWIs), which occur when behaviours wildlife humans result in recurring costs both. Here, we decompose HWI sequence into three key components (spatiotemporal overlap, direct costs, learning), subsequently use derive a typology associated human animal behaviours. We then map existing mitigation strategies aimed at reducing HWIs onto each component, illustrating their application using range examples case studies. conclude that fostering long-term co-existence rapidly changing world will be dependent upon our ability identify, understand, manage behavioural processes underlying instances HWI.
