This study examined how agricultural biodiversity can build climate change resilience and food security in Greece. The aims of this were to identify examine the role genetic, species, ecosystem, functional diversity enhancing against volatility. Data collected from 384 specialists Greece using a quantitative, cross-sectional survey technique. self-administered questionnaire elicited information on perceived effectiveness different types sustaining yield stability for crops, pest disease control, soil conservation, nutrient cycling. hypotheses tested descriptive statistics multiple regression analysis. findings revealed that genetic decreases crop risks, species lowers vulnerability, ecosystem impacts water optimize cycling services. analysis was able explain 62.1% variability resilience, underlining importance conservation biological provision food. points need bio-diversity management agriculture address support productivity production.

Crop diversification is a vital strategy for achieving sustainable agriculture and food security, yet adoption rates remain low. This study examined the socioeconomic factors influencing crop among smallholder farmers. A two-stage sampling procedure was employed to elicit data from 161 farmers solely specializing in production. structured questionnaire used collect data, analyzed using descriptive statistics. The multiple linear regression multivariate probit models were applied assess diversification. results revealed that smallholders primarily focused on vegetable cultivation (87%), followed by cereals (56%) legumes (43%). Education level, household size, market access, perceived benefits of significantly (p < 0.05) influenced decisions. Also, sources irrigation water, age, marital status, farm size key diversification, while farming experience, legume Only status experience positively linked cereal Furthermore, 48.4% practice intercropping, integrating maize with pumpkins or sugar beans, 33.5% still rely monoculture, predominantly maize, due limited resources. These findings highlight need policies extension support address barriers encourage wider strategies.

Water plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable food security, particularly the face of increasing freshwater scarcity and climate variability. This study examines virtual water use trade Ghana’s vegetable production sector over 30-year period (1994–2023), focusing on four key crops: tomato, pepper, onion, eggplant. Using secondary data volumes, flows, content, research quantifies imported exported volumes assesses net trends. The results reveal substantial increase for most crops, with exception which experienced marked decline. Onion tomato are identified as dominant contributors to both imports exports water, while pepper eggplant play relatively minor roles. finds that Ghana is importer trade, emphasizing need integrated resource management balance agricultural growth sustainability. A gravity model analysis was applied identify primary determinants revealing GDP per capita, population size, distance, land availability, use, border-sharing significantly influence patterns. findings suggest enhancing domestic capacity promoting efficient practices can reduce reliance improve resilience against water-related risks. provides valuable insights policymakers, researchers, practitioners aiming develop systems similar contexts.

Despite growing importance, agricultural landscapes face threats, like fragmentation, shrinkage, and degradation, due to climate change. Although remote sensing GIS are widely used in monitoring croplands, integrating machine learning, sensing, GIS, landscape metrics for the holistic management of this remains underexplored. Thus, study monitored crop patterns using random forest (94% accuracy), role geographical factors (such as elevation, aspect, slope, maximum minimum temperature, rainfall, cation exchange capacity, NPK, soil pH, organic carbon, type, water content, proximity drainage, market, road, population density, profit per hectare production), diversity, combinations, fragmentation a index. Findings revealed that production emerged significant drivers shaping patterns. However, anthropogenic became deciding during spatial overlaps between suitability zones. Rice belts were least fragmented highly productive with risk monoculture. Croplands combination soybean, black grams, maize fragmented, despite having high diversity comparatively less field. These diverse fields providing higher profits low risks failure combinations. Equally, intercropping balanced nutrient uptakes, making practice sustainable. it can be suggested productivity should prioritized equally achieve sustainable land use. The development PCA-weighted index offers an efficient tool measure across similar regions, integrated approach provides scalable framework management, use planning, precision agriculture.
