ABSTRACT The healthcare sector is undergoing significant transformation driven by workforce shortages, role imbalances, and technological advances. Traditional health professions, characterised advanced knowledge self‐regulation, face challenges from two key trends. First, there a growing reliance on less‐trained workers, such as nursing assistants physician associates, to fill gaps, raising concerns about patient safety the quality of care. While these roles can assist in simpler tasks, their expanded responsibilities—often exceeding training—can lead adverse outcomes, particularly critical medical scenarios. Second, rise automation artificial intelligence (AI) offers both opportunities risks. AI shows promise reducing administrative burdens aiding specialized tasks like image recognition, its limitations hinder broader adoption, reinforcing biases failing reason diagnostically. This editorial argues that uncritical developments risks compromising quality. It calls for evidence‐based policymaking, robust oversight, updated regulatory frameworks ensure while adapting shifts. Getting right balance between maintaining professional autonomy integrating new technologies building resilient systems capable responding future challenges.

The WHO European Programme of Work, 2020-2025 'United Action for Better Health in Europe', backed up by the Regional Director's vision, recognizes need to invest public health leadership towards addressing multifaceted challenges Region. Office Europe collaboration with Italian National Institute (Istituto Superiore di Sanità-ISS) developed first Public Leadership Course support Member States building their capacity. course was delivered blended modality over a period 3 weeks (7-25 November 2022). It structured according Competency-Based Education model and Problem-Based Learning methodology. Data analyses were conducted on cohort course's 'Completers'. formative assessment pre-post training questionnaire, while summative included three evaluation tools, which participants required get minimum overall mean score 75/100 pass course. Thirty-eight passed all tests out 39 enrolled. analysis multiple-choice questions showed an increase knowledge. Survey results high level satisfaction. offered mix both theoretical practical approaches, allowing gain in-depth knowledge develop skills that can be applied daily work. successful completion is expected promote development workforce eastern southern parts

Objectives To identify factors that improve retention in under-doctored areas experience difficulties maintaining sufficient medical workforce. Design Qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews, collected as part of a larger study. Setting Four purposely sampled geographic case sites England. Three were selected struggled to recruit and retain doctors one an area is oversubscribed. This comprised 27 NHS Trusts, plus 1449 GP practices. Participants 100 National Health Service (NHS)-employed (including general practitioners, consultant specialists, specialty specialist doctors, resident doctors/doctors postgraduate training locally employed doctors) interviewed between December 2022 March 2024. Findings shared their experiences organisational levers impact decisions about working life the Two key themes explained influencing retention. First, participants discussed feeling valued by organisation, both terms material circumstances relationships with colleagues. Conclusions Many studies focusing workforce examine staff leave, but influence retention, greater understanding specific facets culture can be used inform policy practice.
