Factors increasing the risk for food addiction in Ecuadorian students

Background
Food
addiction
(FA)
is
a
construct
that
has
gained
interest
in
recent
years,
but
its
relevance
the
Ecuadorian
population
not
yet
been
explored.
The
aims
of
this
study
were
to
explore
differences
psychological
profile
(including
FA)
between
university
students
from
Ecuador
and
identify
underlying
structure
relationships
FA
severity
level
through
mediational
model.
Methods
sample
consisted
972
students,
women
men
(mean
age:
20.1
years
old,
SD
=
2.6),
recruited
four
regions.
assessment
tools
included
unidimensional
scale
FA,
eating-related
measures,
emotion
regulation

impulsivity,
psychopathology

Path
analysis
modeled
direct
indirect
effects
explaining

Results
results
indicated
higher
psychopathological
levels
associated
with
FA.
Similarly,
no
observed
path
suggested
older
age,
female
sex,
difficulties
emotional
regulation,
negative
mood,
anxiety
trigger
disordered
eating;
subsequently,
more
impaired
eating
behavior
impacted

Adolescence
and
youth
are
critical
periods
in
which
alcohol
consumption
is
usually
initiated,
especially
the
form
of
binge
drinking.
In
recent
years,
it
increasingly
common
to
find
adolescents
young
people
who
also
present
behaviors
towards
unhealthy
food
with
aim
alleviating
their
anxiety
(emotional
eating)
and/or
because
impulsive
personality.
Despite
social
health
relevance
this
issue,
remains
scarcely
studied
more
preventive
research
needs
be
developed.
Our
meta-analysis
study
aimed
evaluate
relationship
co-occurrence
both
during
adolescence
adulthood
clarify
link
between
drinking
eating.
Selective
literature
search
on
different
online
databases
was
performed.
We
identified
discrete
but
significant
results
regarding
direct
association
eating
correlation
coefficients
odds
ratio.
Future
should
focus
psychological

motives

problematic

prevention
