ABSTRACT Treating people who have experienced deep and prolonged developmental trauma, that is, complex post‐traumatic stress disorder (cPTSD), can be challenging given the complexity severity of their presentations. The main features disorder, affective behavioral dysregulation, altered self‐experience identity disturbances, relational difficulties, negative self‐concepts, pathogenic beliefs, are, at same time, therapeutic goals obstacles to treatment. Therefore, clinicians must aware these difficulties in order identify them ready treat when they arise during therapy with client. For this reason, clinical cases presented issue Journal Clinical Psychology: In Session provide a very useful overview how deal manifestations from perspective different models psychotherapy. This commentary, after briefly reviewing clients, offers critical summary commonalities differences between various approaches by special issue. purpose is help reader navigate key aspects treating pathogenetic processes involved cPTSD tools may applicable

Art therapy (AT) has been proposed as a treatment for post-traumatic conditions, potentially by providing somatic sensory input that can (i) enhance the client’s sense of self and embodiment, (ii) modulate arousal, (iii) aid in rethinking reframing traumatic memories. However, evidence supporting AT dissociative disorders remains limited. The theoretical basis efficacy is discussed relation to findings regarding traumatized person’s brain mindset, well its altered functional network connectivity. It crucial consider specific alterations networks associated with trauma, particularly those occurring deep regions, which include midbrain, brainstem, cerebellum. hypothesis suggests early or severe trauma impair brain’s higher regulatory functions, explained cascade theory. This theory explains how diverse activation patterns within midbrain’s periaqueductal gray (PAG) midbrain influence limbic system cortices, thereby modulating states being behavior. Phase-specific, resource-oriented, long-term complexly individuals benefit from novel insights neuroimaging studies inform therapeutic methods. illustrated clinical vignette client diagnosed identity disorder (DID), where reorienting (DBR) was combined relational AT. component hypothesized have facilitated grounding present moment enhanced access her neurophenomenological self. Moreover, changes may occurred at implicit non-verbal levels. DBR believed helped remain previously avoided unbearable internal experience. To validate these assumptions, second author conducted semi-structured interview focused on experiences psychotherapy , including effect when introduced after were articulated through thematic analysis interview, yielded following themes: Loneliness, getting help moving towards togetherness . Research has shown that the impact of traumatic events and circumstances on individuals is cumulative potentially a wide range harmful consequences, including negative consequences mental health. One such consequence development personality disorder, persistent condition characterized by pronounced pattern difficulties in impulse control, emotional regulation, cognitive functions, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships. A array studies indicates personal history with disorder often marked exposure to or other types adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Because existing treatments for disorders are usually long costly, it essential continue exploring alternative complementary interventions. Nowadays, knowledge clinical experience regard have been gained addressing ACEs processing memories these through eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. In this paper, we present theoretical framework treatment approach, based Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, describe its current empirical basis, provide guidance how formulate useful case conceptualization can serve as basis EMDR This approach illustrated example.

Introduction Childhood sexual abuse persists as a painful societal reality, necessitating responses from institutions and healthcare professionals to prevent address its severe long-term consequences in victims. This study implements an intervention comprising two psychotherapeutic approaches recommended by the WHO international clinical guidelines for addressing short-, medium-, posttraumatic symptomatology: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Both are adapted group formats implementation small online groups via Zoom. Methods The impact of both therapeutic on trauma improvement was assessed sample 19 women who were victims childhood through Randomized Clinical Trial comparing EMDR Psychotherapy after baseline period. Intra inter comparison made using statistics appropriate sample. Results significantly reduced symptomatology across various evaluated variables, suggesting their efficacy improving quality life these individuals. Following CBT-FT treatment, patients exhibited enhanced emotional regulation, reexperiencing, avoidance. group, utilizing G-TEP protocol, improved dissociation, along with other crucial variables perception life. Discussion Although limitations this must be taken into account due size lack follow-up, results align existing scientific literature, underscoring benefits trauma-focused psychological treatments. format appears promising enhancing accessibility treatment women. Furthermore, differential outcomes each support recent research advocating inclusion individuals trauma-related symptomatology. Although there need more empirical research, hope makes solid case clinicians can effectively include when treating full range PD.

Exposure to adverse childhood events plays an important role in the development of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Emerging evidence suggests that trauma-focused therapy using eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be beneficial for patients with BPD symptoms. To date, effects brief, intensive EMDR treatment this target group have not been investigated population.
