The Molecular Mechanisms and Treatment of Cancer-Related Cachexia

Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by persistent skeletal muscle loss, with or without fat which cannot be completely reversed traditional nutritional support and leads to impaired organ function. Cachexia seriously reduces the quality of life (QOL) patients, affects therapeutic effect against cancers, increases incidence complications, an important cause death for patients advanced cancers. To date, no effective medical intervention has cachexia, medication been agreed upon. Here, we describe recent advances in diagnosis, molecular mechanism treatment cancer-related cachexia.

Are measures and related symptoms of cachexia recorded as outcomes in gastrointestinal cancer chemotherapy clinical trials?

Cachexia is prevalent in gastrointestinal cancers and worsens patient outcomes chemotherapy compliance. We examined to what extent registered cancer clinical trials record measures related symptoms of cachexia as outcomes, whether these were associated with trial characteristics.
