Pollen and Floral Organ Morphology of 18 Oil-Tea Genotypes and Its Systematic Significance

Oil-tea
belongs
to
the
Camellia
genus,
an
important
oil
crop
in
China.
However,
oil-tea
is
taxonomically
challenging
due
its
morphological
variation,
polyploidy,
and
interspecific
hybridization.
Therefore,
present
study
aimed
investigate
flower
organs’
morphology
pollen
micro-morphology
of
18
genotypes
detail
discussed
their
significance
for
taxonomy.
The
quantitative
parameters
flowers
were
measured
using
Vernier
caliper
measurements.
Pollen
was
observed
photographed
scanning
electron
microscopy
(SEM).
results
indicated
that
size
varied
significantly
among
tested
genotypes,
with
corolla
diameter
ranging
from
42.25
μm
C.
meiocarpa
‘LP’

Previous
studies
reported
that
intrageneric
relationships
of
genus
Veratrum
family
Melanthiaceae
are
controversial
and
hard
to
delimit.
Therefore,
we
observed
the
pollen
morphological
features
six
species
in
detail
using
both
light
microscopy
scanning
electron
investigated
their
significance
for
taxonomy.
Among
them,
five
were
studied
first
time.
The
results
demonstrated
grains
medium
size
with
P/E
being
0.31–0.60.
Three
types
shape
polar
view
have
been
elliptic,
long-elliptic,
or
wide-elliptic
blunt
rounded
at
ends.
Two
width
colpus
narrow
wide,
two
depth
deep
flat,
length
extend
almost
do
not
ends,
whereas
membranes
absent
obvious.
One
type
surface
ornamentation
was
noted
as
reticulate.
These
support
album
lobelianum
well
grandiflorum
oxysepalum
independent
species,
respectively,
rather
than
classifying
into
sections.
Overall,
ratio
axis
equatorial
axial
length,
characteristics
view,
morphology,
important
systematic
identification
delimitation
species.
