Amphibians are the most threatened vertebrates, yet their resilience to rising temperatures remains poorly understood1,2. This is primarily because knowledge of thermal tolerance taxonomically and geographically biased3, compromising global climate vulnerability assessments. Here we used a phylogenetically informed data-imputation approach predict heat 60% amphibian species assessed daily temperature variations in refugia. We found that 104 out 5,203 (2%) currently exposed overheating events shaded terrestrial conditions. Despite accounting for heat-tolerance plasticity, 4 °C increase would create step change impact severity, pushing 7.5% beyond physiological limits. In Southern Hemisphere, tropical encounter disproportionally more events, while non-tropical susceptible Northern Hemisphere. These findings challenge evidence general latitudinal gradient risk4-6 underscore importance considering climatic variability provide conservative estimates assuming access cool microenvironments. Thus, impacts warming will probably exceed our projections. Our microclimate-explicit analyses demonstrate vegetation water bodies critical buffering amphibians during waves. Immediate action needed preserve manage these microhabitat features.

Thermal tolerance plasticity is a core mechanism by which organisms can mitigate the effects of climate change. As result, there need to understand how variation in arises. The baseline tolerance/plasticity trade-off hypothesis (hereafter referred as hypothesis, TOH) has recently emerged potentially powerful explanation. TOH posits that with high thermal have reduced relative those low tolerance. Many studies found support for TOH. However, this must be regarded cautiously because most common means testing yield spurious "trade-offs" due regression mean. Adaptive thermal tolerance plasticity can dampen the negative effects of warming. However, our knowledge is lacking for embryonic stages that are relatively immobile and may benefit most from an adaptive plastic response. We tested heat hardening capacity (a rapid increase in manifests minutes to hours) embryos lizard

The emerging fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans ( Bsal ) threatens the diversity of amphibians, particularly in North America where it is projected to invade. Amphibian skin defenses include a mucosal layer containing microorganisms that can potentially modulate host response pathogens such as . In this study, we focused on composition microbiome across life stages spotted salamanders Ambystoma maculatum ). We also evaluated stress hormone corticosterone and inoculations with probiotics at both larval juvenile developmental stages, different environmental conditions. Results indicated bacterial communities found significantly differed structure between A. Exposure three Bacillus thuringiensis , Chryseobacterium rhizoplanae Penicillium sp.) evoked shifts larvae juveniles, metabolite profile Despite changes microbiome, all tested were unable persist skin. Larval microbiomes shifted B. no significant impacts antifungal function or bacteria richness, however fungi strongly responded application. This indicates be initiated by microbial applications widely used mosquito larvicide.
