Providing the appropriate quantity and quality of food needed for both mother’s well-being healthy development offspring is crucial during pregnancy. However, macro- micronutrient intake also impacts body’s regulatory supersystems mother, such as immune, endocrine, nervous systems, which ultimately influence overall offspring. Of particular importance association between unhealthy maternal diet neurodevelopmental disorders in Epidemiological studies have linked like autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, to immune activation (MIA) gestation. While deleterious consequences diet-induced MIA on neurodevelopment are increasingly revealed, neuroinflammation emerging a key underlying mechanism. In this review, we compile evidence available how mother impacted by dietary imbalance. We specifically explore various inflammatory anti-inflammatory effects components discuss changes status can prime brain toward disorders. Lastly, research mechanisms that sustain relationship imbalance development, involving altered neuroinflammatory offspring, well genetic cellular programming notably microglia, gut microbiome may act mediator.
